SD card reader requires printer reset to read.

My MK3 will not register a change in SD card without resetting the printer with a card inserted. It no longer displays any messages about the SD card being inserted or removed. And the card appears to be blank to the printer until the printer is reset with a card inserted. If the printer is reset with no card, it displays no SD card, and will not read a card until reset.

I am not sure when this actually started, as I have been using Octoprint almost exclusively the last few months. But after reading how Octoprint can be slow in sending complex commands, I decided to switch back to using the SD card for awhile to see if there was a change in quality.

Anyone else experience this? Is it a known issue?

Hello scott,
did you already try an different SD Card?
I use an flashair sd card via WiFi, and it works as well as the original did/does.
But i´ve heard about a few reported problems with the original sd card.
Maybe you want to give it a try with another sd card.

Yes, I tried several other cards, and even bought a couple new cards. Seems like a software /firmware issue, as it doesn't acknowledge the removal of a card either.

I am using the 3.2.1 firmware.

Re: SD card reader requires printer reset to read.

I have the same problem on my MK3. I have a Flash Air card on both my Mk2 and Mk3. Both cards work on the Mk2 w/o problem, but on power-on with the Mk3 the connection seems to fail until I remove and reinsert the Flash Air. Sometimes that does not work and I end up toggling off and on the Flash Air option. Also, in some cases the card on the Mk3 shows it's inserted, but no files show up when I attempt to print from SD.

My current firmware on the Mk3 is 3.2.1-576

Re: SD card reader requires printer reset to read.

Were you able to figure out a solution?

My MK3 arrived 2 days ago and I've spent the last couple days putting it together. PRUSA logo and Treefrog 50micrometer went fine. I loaded some cookie cutters onto a second SD card and I am having a problem as the printer will not view the .gcode files.

The SD card originally had a file directory of DCIM > 100MEDIA. I erased the card and loaded the .gcode files into the DCIM directory and deleted the 100MEDIA directory. When I put the SD card in, it shows the same file structure as it originally read when the card was first inserted. The i3 does not refresh what is on the card.

I tried resetting with the card inserted and power cycled with and without the card inserted. However I cannot get it to refresh its read of the file structure so I can see the .gcode files I put in the DCIM directory. Anyone have any suggestions?

Dunno which OS you are using. Are you ejecting the SD card proplerly after writing files or erasing them? Writing files and removing the card could produce what you’re describing.

Re: SD card reader requires printer reset to read.

I'm on macOS using a FAT32 microSD w/ adapter. I am ejecting the card.
