Resumle after power loss

Hello!

I just have a general power loss in my house, with a 2 day print at 25%.
When power came back, no option to resume.
My printer is a MK3, with last firmware, driven by Octoprint (up-to-date) on a rPI 3 (up-to-date).

As for now, I have touched nothing, the print is still on the bed.

Is there a way to force resume or it's dead?

Thanks 🙁

Hello,

does the Power Panic feature already work with octoprint?
As far as I can remember, it only works when you print via sd-card.

Greetings Kai

Re: Resumle after power loss

carefully measure the print height, edit the code omit mesh bed levelling and to restart at that height, set it going again and see what happens.

or pop the print off the bed, edit the gcode to start where the other print left off, and glue the parts together

Re: Resumle after power loss

Is there something special that needs to be done to get this feature to work?

I've lost power about 4 times in the last 15 years I've lived here - of course, today would be the day during a print.

Not a huge deal, as the print was like 98% finished.

However, I expected the printer to resume, it did not...

1. Power went out.
2. Bed moved as far back as it could.
3. Print head was positioned as far forward.
4. When power restored, I believe I touched nothing and the head moved back to what was (I am guessing here) the last position over the piece (bed moved forward to line up the head).
5. At this point, nothing further happened. The bed and nozzle heated up but once it got to the appropriate temps, the printer just sat there.
6. I checked the menu for any option to "resume" and saw nothing.

Since it was so close to done, I moved the head, powered it off, and removed the 95% complete piece and called it a day.

I am really wondering though, what *SHOULD* have happened after the power was restored. Was there suppose to be a "resume" button or should it have just gone on to finish?

I am also pretty sure I want to start a small print and kill the power via the power switch its plugged in to in order to simulate a power loss...just to see if I can get it to resume.

Otherwise, this has been rock solid. Absolute joy to work with (so far) and I even built this from a kit as a total noob! 😆

Re: Resume after power loss

I experimented with this today. I'm new to Prusa, so I was reluctant to leave the printer running overnight. Previously, on another print, I'd turned off the power switch, so I learned the hard way that that doesn't work.

Last night, I yanked the power cord.It made a loud beep and went dead. This morning, I plugged it back in. After a few seconds, it gave me a

Resume print?

I told it yes and it warmed up and resumed printing. There was a bit of excess plastic from the warm up but it resumed perfectly. In fact, it even fixed a weird bug so it was better than before.

I've got a i3 mk3, with firmware 3.5.

Re: Resumle after power loss

I experimented with this after I had a filament runout induced filament change fail as a last ditch attempt to save a print.
after the unload of the last bit of the finished spool I loaded the replacement but I fumbled it a bit and so when I did not see the full change o collor I clicked no... it squeezed out a bit more... still tainted hit no again and nothing happened it just stayed on that Yes No step and selecting either of them got no response so it was a software hang...

i hit the GFI test button on the wall socket to induce a power panic as I thought that might get around the freeze point in the board.
when I repowered the printer it just did a normal restart the print was not recoverable but it was just 1 hour into a 9 hour print so no major loss... when I took what thought was the start of a good print off of the plate it looked like this.

but then I turned it over and found I had forgotten to turn on supports so it would not have been useable in any case.

Quick question why is there such a difference between the 2 ends with the bridging mess.
one end is almost useable look at the top but the end at the bottom which is exactly the same on the model is a total mess... same angles and area why did the both not print the same way?

Try going to preheat and preheat as you would normally that worked for me when I stupidly unplugged the power cord 😳 . After heating to proper temp it went right to where it stopped and printed fine. 😉

This happened to me too with my MK3S, unless someone from Prusa says different,
I believe that this function only works for the SD card and not Octoprint.
I did not have a Resume option with power loss during print and using Octoprint.

Thanks for your post!

Re: Resumle after power loss

It can't work with OctoPrint. The Pi reboots after power returns waiting for a new job.

As stated above PowerPanic will not work with OctoPrint but one of these will protect your print from a brief outage or flicker if you're on a 120vac system. Just make sure your Pi is powered through it as well.

Anything from the PFC line should work. I have the smallest one on my MK3 and it works fine providing a few minutes protection. Of course this does nothing for extended outages but that's the exception and not the rule where I'm at.
