RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
Hi Jeroen,
it's a little confusing...
You also need to tick the box above the one you underlined, to enable support generation
the box you are showing ticked at the moment is used to disable automatic supports if you would rather use Geometric support enforcers (Blocks, Cylinders, Slabs or imported shaped supports) or is you are using selective painted support enforcers to create custom support setups. where you don't want lots of needless supports on your model, clearing that box, turns off the automatic supports.
See the Prusa Slicer Knowledge base article here> https://help.prusa3d.com/en/category/prusaslicer_204

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
Hi Joan,
It's very confusing as the tooltip also says this:
I would assume this would trigger support generation in my case without doing anything, but it doesn't. I'm familiar with forcing support generation and support enforcers, but is there even a way in prusaslicer to detect if supports are needed automatically whitout enforcing them yourself? The article says `PrusaSlicer can both detect areas that need supports and generate them in these places automatically.` but up until now i've never had supports being generated automatically.
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
do you have a problem clicking the button and seeing what happens?
Nobody Else can do that for you!

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
Wow... sorry for asking this question. I'll just go ahead and click some buttons until i get it right then 😑
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
@jeroen-2
you could just click the button I identified, and see if it works.

RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
If i tick the box `Generate support material` supports are being generated obviously, is this to be considered the `automatic` part then?
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
I think i'm confused with the meaning of `Auto generated supports`. From what i see now is that this doesn't mean 'detect if supports are needed and generate them' but it means 'auto generate supports in the right places if you choose to generate supports'. If this is the case, then it's clear to me now.
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
@jeroen-2
Like you, I must have misunderstood the functionality of the "Auto Generated Supports" feature. I assumed it that was on, supports would be put in where Prusaslicer thought they were needed. Looks like that does not happen... The documentation isn't very clear on that either. I'll have to run some tests myself to make sure I really understand how that works.
RE: PrusaSlicer 2.2.0 not automatically generating supports
@egar @Jeroen-2
If you load a default session of Prusa Slicer 2.2.0 and load a Benchy You wouldn't expect to get Supports because Benchy will print without supports.
If you look at the right hand side of the default Prusa Slicer Window, you will see the "Supports" selection box shows 'None'
If you look in the Print Settings Support Material window you will see that the "Generate Support Material " check box, is not Checked...
and the slicer does not generate any support.
If you open the "Support" selection Box, you will see there are three four basic options:
As shown in the picture above.
If you select " Support" 'Everywhere'
as you can see in the picture above Support everywhere is selected and there is a ridiculous amount of support on the model, this would be a pain to remove
if you look in the lower part of the Picture, the only change is "Generate support material" Checkbox, is checked
So obviously this needs to be checked to enable support.
If you select "Support" 'From Build plate only'
Above you can now see that there is reduced support, from the build plate only, the deck house no longer has support.
If you select "Support" 'For Enforcers Only'
this currently slices with NO Supports, because there are No Enforcers
In the lower box you can see the Generate Support Material box is checked, and the Auto Generate Support box is unchecked
If we now add a cube support enforcer
You will see that we only get support in areas where slicer thinks it is needed and enforcers are present
slicer 2.2.0 doesn't yet have paint on supports so I haven't included them here
NOTE! in all instances where support is present , the "Generate Support Material" check box, IS checked.
I hope this helps
Regards Joan

@swiss_cheese
Hi,
I have my own problems, being dyslexic, I can easily miss the blindingly obvious.... I have had support from my predecessors, and now it's my time to help where I can.
there are many confusing parts of the English Language, and It is not always the first language for people responding here.
the two most used forums are the English forum and the Cesky Forum, and there is a lot of information that doesn't appear in the other forums, so people seem to look around the different languages.
I am ashamed to admit that English speaking people are often poor at other languages where as other language users are often pretty good at English as well.
getting upset doesn't help people, so I do my best to remain cool and calm...
I hope it works.
regards Joan
