PrusaControl, and Slic3r are omitting details when generating gcode ...

I'm trying to print the following: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:399474 (among other things, but this is what we'll go with)

The problem I have, is when I slice this into gcode using PrusaControl, the buckles themselves simply do not render out, they don't exist in the preview, and they are never printed ...

So I tried to render this out using Slic3r, and albeit the buckle now shows up in the preview, the added supports (which are part of the model, not generated by Slic3r) do not show up, meaning the print would obviously fail.

Any ideas what's going on here? How come certain parts do not appear.

I have tested other models as well, for example: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3135419

In this model, the small circles on the inside of the engine, do not render in the preview, no matter what configuration settings I set.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Thanks for any advice.

Usually when parts fail to appear after slicing it means they are so thin that the program does not "see" them. Maybe drop the .stl into 3D Builder on Windows 10. That is a pretty easy and useful program for making things printable.

Are there settings within Slic3r that I can use to allow it to see the fine detail? I just picked up a 0.25mm nozzle, and I'm going to try printing the pieces with that, but not until I can get Slic3r to render the pieces first.

This is a bit of a simplification, but in general you can't print anything smaller than your nozzle width. If the wall is less than 0.4 mm wide, you can't really print it with a 0.4 mm nozzle. When you switch the setting in Slic3r to a 0.25 mm nozzle, now you will be able to print walls down to 0.25 mm wide. The slicer knows this and so detail that are too small won't show up in the preview.

There is an "override" option that will allow you to print still called "Detect thin walls". Checking this will force the thin walls to print, but they will be the size of the nozzle, not the size specified in the stl. Depending on the model, this may be fine or not.

If you switch to a 0.25 nozzle and the walls are still too thin, you should probably question something. A 0.1 mm wall is going to be so structurally weak that it really isn't going to hold up much.

Hope this helps.
