Prusa print plate replacement
Hi all,
I hope this is the right venue for this. If not I apologize in advance. Anyway the surface of the sheet my library uses for it's Prusa printing recently sustained some damage in an attack by the Rebel Alliance.
Made you look.
Nope, just regular wear and tear. However I can't print on this sheet anymore and there seems to be no other sheets for sale on the Eshop on the Prusa website. Any idea where I can get these Prusa sheets online?
Thank you in advance.

I recommend having at least one PEI, one PC TXT, and one Buildtak.

If the printer is operated by the OP's local library, the OP may not have an account with Prusa? Don't you have to have purchased a MK3 or MK3S to have access to ordering spares? Or is it just an e-shop login to buy?
I can picture it now.....hanging around outside the e-shop- "hey man, can you buy for me please?" LOL

Anyone can create a store account (I think)... and I've been able to view parts for printers I don't own.
And this forum is user to user, not really anything Prusa wants to spend time supporting answering questions. So contacting Prusa for Prusa questions is probably best. Maybe they can explain why they built their store the way they did ... lol.

RE: Prusa print plate replacement
Anyone can create a login, but to buy spares you need to have had a printer shipped to you. When I ordered my printer the "Spares" section of the e-Store only became available the moment my order status changed to "Shipped".
RE: Prusa print plate replacement
You can also send them an email requesting a quotation for parts. Did that for the company I work for as we wanted to order 2 printers along with some spare parts right from the start.

Our purchase was handled via a 3rd party so they have all the details, but I thank you for all the advice and suggestions you've given here. Also it's true: you can't order the steel plates unless you've actually ordered a printer...which makes little sense to me. Oh well.

Definitely not the end of the world. I am not a fan of the no-name generic stuff off AliExpress, but I have had excellent results with the following combo:
- A spring steel flexible sheet from PrintedSolid. The PrintedSolid sheet is actually thinner and more flexible than Prusa's. I quite like it.
- A PEI surface from BuildTak. BuildTak uses an adhesive that is much easier to remove and replace.
With this combination, I have a good PEI surface that can easily be replaced as needed. The only downer is the need to re-calibrate your Live-Z setting for the new sheet, but that only takes minutes using Jeff Jordan's "Life Adjust" procedure. I've stored my hybrid sheet as one of the 3 profiles offered in the 2.8 firmware alpha and it's working well.
The costs will be about the same as for the Prusa sheet. Keep in mind, pricing for the PEI is per sheet, and you really do want both sides covered to protect the heated bed. Consider using BuildTak for the reverse side for maximum flexibility.

If you order off AliExpress, go with Triangle Labs or DForce. The beds from other manufacturers are not near the quality of those two.

Hmm. Re-reading the original post, I'm not sure whether OP is after smooth or textured sheets. That'll make a difference in terms of available options. The options I listed assume a smooth PEI stickered surface.

According to the breakthrough I was just granted-Prusa agreed to let us buy sheets from them 😉 - it's the smooth sheet that we've been using. I'm not sure what benefits or detriments use of a textured sheet would provide in this case as I am still a relative neophyte.

How true! With the PEI stickers, there are plenty of quality options. With Textured, there are less.

If you are allowed, buy both the smooth and the textured. The textured is nice for when you want a texture on the face (look at the LCD mount on the Prusa printer for an example of this), and the smooth is good for everything else.
