prusa mk3s not extruding during printing but extruder working
Hello,
I am facing exactly the same problem as described in the following post :
https://3dprinting.stackexchange.com/questions/16586/prusa-mk3s-not-extruding-during-printing-but-extruder-working
I was not able to find any question related to such a problem on this forum, hence I opened this topic.
I will add that, when I start a print:
- the printer is able to extrude the first line after bed level verification,
- but, when it start to print the outline of the printing, nothing is extruded anymore,
- the extruder gears are rotating ,
- same problem with different filaments,
- same problem with different filament materials,
- modifying the tension on the Extruder-idler changes nothing.
Before disassembling and reassembling the printing head, does somebody here got an idea ?
Thanks.

set live Z to 0.00 and see if the extruder dribbles filament strands at all.
if live Z is too low, the build plate effectively blocks the nozzle and often causes the bondtech feed wheels to click
if the printer now extrudes filament, re do your live Z.

My list of suspects:
The idler screw too tight or too loose (okay, you checked that )
Partial blockage of the nozzle.
Live Z too low ( as Joan suggested)
Trying to print PETg at PLA temperature.
And in the category of wild ideas:
Something like a piece of filament stuck under the steel sheet

Have you checked the ptfe tube.

Hi,
thanks much Joan for the head up !
I re calibrated the Z axis and then re adjusted the first layer and ... tada ... it worked again !
I still wonder what occurred here after 5kms of filament printing without having to re calibrate the machine, except when I was changing the kind of steel sheet.
cheers,
François.

Thanks Fushsr for your advised suggestions .

You know, it just happens. Maybe the part keeping the PINDA in place is a bit sagging. I've seen this happen (and not just "a bit") on 2 machines after printing stretches of ASA. Or more likely if all you print is PLA, the screw holding that part right worked itself a bit loose. You may want to give it a turn with the Allen wrench.

ok, thanks, will do !
I print mostly PETG / ABS / ASA / PC not too much PLA
