PRUSA MK3 will read cards, but can't SEE files in it. Please HELP!
This is the Issue: The card reader seems to read the card, but shows the SD card as empty (see photo below)
I've tried different cards, with all types of formatting file systems. Same result.
I've upgraded firmware to latest version to try to fix the problem, but no luck.
My prusa its an Original Prusa i3 MK3
no.
Nope. I did the upgrade to try to fix the problem, but it didn't.
I just stopped reading files after not using it for a couple of months.
Did you do an update recently?
Can you see the files if you load the card from your computer?
The Filament Whisperer
Yes I can
Yes I can...
Any special character in the file and folder names that the printer does not like?
I might try saving the files to my computer then (reformat) the card, reload some files and see if this helps, I've experienced may issues with SD cards over the years most of them related to photography, more often then not it came back to the card and not the device.
Good Luck

Video of issue
Here's a video of the issue. (Tried different cards, with all kinds of formatting, and multiple to single files. All files that have worked in the past, with cards that have worked in the past.
It alwasy does the same. It pretends to read the car, but displays it as empty.
RE: PRUSA MK3 will read cards, but can't SEE files in it. Please HELP!
I was having a simmilar issue with new sd cards. I formatted them as the page stated to, but it wouldn't read folders. Turned out to be that my folders for .6 and .4 nozzle sizes were causing issue. I removed the period and it works fine now. Hopefully helpful to someone.

I couldn’t get your video to play but the printer will only ‘see’ gcode files so make sure that’s what you’re loading onto the card and not 3mf or some other format.
Also, don’t use any special characters or punctuation in the file names. The printer doesn’t like that either.
Did you get an SD card with pre-sliced files with your printer? Does the printer see the files on that card? Did you try copying your files to that same card?

SOLUTION
I was having the same problem. Looked at all the forums and no one had a real answer. I did a continuity test on both of the ribbon cables and found that the last wire on cable 2 was open. After removing the cable sheath I found that the last wire was completely severed, and the second to last had a deep gouge in it. It looked like it had been sliced by a knife. I ordered mine assembled from factory, and I must have bumped it enough to finally sever that connection. After I soldered it back together it works again.
TLDR: Continuity check ribbon cables from display.

The usual cause is a well-used USB card reader. If the problem occurs, pull back the SD-card a tiny bit, this usually does the trick.
I try to give answers to the best of my ability, but I am not a 3D printing pro by any means, and anything you do you do at your own risk. BTW: I have no food for…

I am having the same problem with a brand new Prusa mini. The printer reads, and will print perfectly the files that came on the SD card that came with the machine. I cant get it to read files that I create with the Prusa slicing software for love or money.

Hi Dan,
Can you zip compress an example of a model that you have sliced, and attach it, to your next post for us to look at?
It doesn't need to be a large or complex model. but it does need to be zipped...
