PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
At my wits end here. PRUSA i3 MK3. Have flashed latest version of Firmware 3.14.1 and installed latest version- 2.9.2 of the slicer. I am running latest version of Windows on a new desktop. Previously stl files from FreeCAD have been sliced and transferred to the printer on an SD card which has not been changed. Previous G codes are recognised by the printer. The latest G code is present in the SD card on my desktop but it is not recognised by the printer when the SD card is inserted into the slot. Where am I going wrong?
Does the printer attempt to read the file but fail with a read-error or is the file just not visible to the printer?
Cheerio,
RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
The new G code file is visible on the SD card along with all the older G code files when viewed in my desktop. When the SD card is plugged into the printer the new G code cannot be seen, but the older G code files are visible and I can initiate printing on these older G code files. I have bought a new SD card- and downloaded the new G code file and a second new G code for a very simple print- neither recognised by the printer despite being visible on my Desktop. The implication is that the printer firmware has a problem recognising recently made stl files that have been converted into G code.
RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
Are there any non alpha numeric characters in the file name?
this may cause issues

RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
Not that I can see. I downloaded the latest version on the slicer onto a laptop taking great care and the new files are now recognised and are printed by the printer with excellent results. I suspect that I may have skipped a step in the original installation and not specified the printer type . I will re-install the slicer software on the desktop and see how that goes.

RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
Still not progressing. Sliced prints on using Prusa slicer on desktop are not being recognised. The same stl files sliced using PRUSA slicer on my laptop are recognised and the printer starts printing them. I have reflashed the printer firmware after removing old firmware from the desktop. The slicer software has been redownloaded- none of this has helped. I have saved the stl files with simple titles too. This really is an enigma!
RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
I am sorry to hear this problem still exists
Hopefully another user may be able to help,
I Only have laptops.
Have you tried Prusa Chat?

RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
Prusa in their wisdom have changed the G code file type. The G codes not being recognised have the file extension .bgcode. Previously the file extension was .gcode . I think this is the source of the problem as the laptop slice outputs the files as .gcode, whereas the desktop outputs the files as .bgcode . I will investigate further. There is a Reddit discussion on the change in file type.
RE: PRUSA i3 MK3 Not recognising g code
Yes I can see you have been helpful to others who have encountered problems with the substitution of binary G code files for G code files by Prusa. Your screen shot was most helpful- in fact better than the Prusa instructions- and my printer now recognises the files having specified G code rather than bG code for export from the slicer. I share the frustration expressed by others on the forum. As the old saying goes “You don’t know what you don’t know”. Thanks for your help.
