Printer display partially unreadable
Good day,
My 3 years old i3 MK3S+ printer started today to have problem with the display. I can only see the top right handside corner. The remaining is only vertical bars.
I can still interact with the printer, browse through the menus, select options. But only the shown corner will display readable information.I've restarted many times, redone the flat cables connections. No improvements.
How do I solve this ?
RE:
Assuming that you checked carefully the cable connectors on both sides (LCD screen and Einsy board ), there's a chance that the problem is a faulty wire in one cable and not the display itself. If you had a spare cable, that would be easy to check, but this is a very remote possibility, in all likelihood you'll need a new display. After three years your printer must be out of warranty. Anyway, you loose nothing contacting Prusa just in case. Maybe they'll agree to send you a new display for free, but I wouldn't count much on that.
Prusa sells this part for a helfty price ( 58 euros or the equivalent in USD ). I bet that you can find this same model for half that money, or even less, at Ali-Express and other places.
RE: Printer display partially unreadable
I've ordered a new display from Amazon. I'll post an update about the outcome once I test this new display.
Thanks for your reply and comments.
RE: Printer display partially unreadable
Please be aware that some non prusa LCD Modules have no plastic shells around the two 10 pin ribbon cable connectors and some LCD Modules have the keyway in the plastic shell, on the wrong side...
Make sure that you get the Ribbon cables on, in the correct orientation...

Thanks Joan for your warnings! I'll be very cautious to check correct pin orientation when I connect the cable.
Cheers, Jérôme
RE: Printer display partially unreadable
when I Built my Mk1 prusa, I Stupidly put the red stripe on the ribbon cables to Pin1 on the connector, (cos that's the correct way to orientate the cable) Wrong... the red stripe went towards pin 10 (If you wanted to get your printer working) since then I Ignore prior knowledge and use the assembly guide to sort the ribbon cables...
Good luck,
Joan

RE: Printer display partially unreadable
Hi Joan, I got my new display, a RepRapDiscount Smart Controller. I connected it first accordingly to the keyway in the plastic shell. Didn’t work!I then cut a new keyway on the opposite side and tried this connection. It worked perfectly!
Thanks again for pointing out this possible issue. It saved me further headache with this new display.
Regards, Jérôme
