Print squished in z-axis / layers printed double
I have this effect on my prints
It started some prints ago, but not on everyone. Now I get it on every print. I don't even know what this is called. It looks like the z-axis motors skip, and so a layer is printed twice on the same physical height, but at different height for the printer.
This print should be 19mm tall but it iss only 16mm tall.
I ran all the tests and did XYZ recalibration, but this is still happening.
Has anybody an idea what is happening here?
Thanks!
Setup: MK3S + Revo Hotend with MMU2. Firmware: 3.13.2 and use OctoPrint 1.9.3. I print in silent mode.
RE:
Never seen this. What could cause this:
- If the problem is mechanical in the Z-axis and/or Z steppermotor(s), you would expect that left/right do not do this exactly at the same time. There would not be double lines only, but also de/ascending diagonally.
- Could it be a bad electrical connection? If so, it must be a wire what is common for both stepper motors. As I understand the Z-motors have a common driver on the Einsy board.
I would check the connectors/etcetera there. (I do not now if they also share the same connector or have there own on the board.)
- Could it be an digital issue? So:
+ error in G-code -> if so, then you would have the same error in every copy printed with the same G-code. (I would test that, also reslice the object a bit replaced on the plate, so you are sure there is different G-code. If you get same error, then the issue is probably in the printer , unless a very rare case where the slicer software is malfunctioning).
- error in printware? Did you update the firmware lately? If so, perhaps downgrade to last good working version and check again?
We will do what we have always done. We will find hope in the impossible.
Please save your project as a .3mf file

Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.
Cheerio,
RE: Print squished in z-axis / layers printed double
Thanks for the pointers.
Looks like it was a Firmware Issue. I updated to 3.13.3 and my issues are gone for now. I used the same gcode files as before and now all looks good.
