Print size is way off - i3MK3s print about 50-70% size

Hi,

I recently bought the is MK3S kit. I'm new to 3D printing so I hope I'm making a beginner mistake with this problem.. After assembly I started printing a lot, and I'm really happy with the print quality. So far so good. But recently I made a model for a dice, to use in a board game and realised that my printer prints the incorrect size.

First I thought of calibrating and adjusting the print size, but every forum or explanation on youtube talks about tens of a millimeter. The print difference with my prints vary for 50% to 70% of the size it should be. The dice should be 11mm and printed 8mm. See pic below (sorry for lack of sharpness).

dice original vs print size

I tested the original sample models that were on the SD-card from prusa. For example the "3Dhubs Marvin" measures 24,46mm wide in PrusaSlicer but printed 21,2mm.

- I checked the bed size, which is correct.

- Firmware is updated to 3.7.2

- Did the xyz calibration, temperature calibration and bed levelling

- Did a reset of PrusaSlicer

- My Z-axis correction is set to -1.015mm, I didn't have any quality issues with my prints:

Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong here?

Thanks!

The calibrated size of an object is set with XYZ calibration by detecting objects embedded in the fiberglass heat bed.  Unless you've manually modified the firmware or the eeprom stored constants, it is hard to see how you can get a print error as large as you are seeing (Live-Z or Z-Offset does not change the scale of a part).

I'd recommend you run the printer XYZ calibrations again.

I forgot to tell I print with PLA orange and the silver-grey which were delivered with the printer.

Settings are standard "Prusament PLA" Bottom layer starts with 215C and continuous at 215C and "Generic PLA" which starts at 215 and continuous at 210C. The last one seems to print a better quality.

I don't notice a difference in XYZ-axis print size. When I printed the dice the X, Y and Z-axis sizes are the same. A bigger dice that was supposed to be 14mm, printed at 10,5mm both X and Y-axis, Z-axis turned out to be 10,6m (I guess that's only adjusting the Z-axis calibration).

Load this into Prusa Slicer: what is the size shown?

25mmCube

ps: and can you be more specific in what Z-Axis correction setting you are talking about? Printer, Slicer, ???

What I meant is that everything seems to be working correct, except that the total size of the printed object is way to small.

With adjusting de Z-axis I mean the printer setting to adjust the nozzle height, the setting which also can be adjusted during a print. I just wanted to point out that, apart from a very small difference in size, all axis are adjusted correctly.

PrusaSlicer shows the size correct:

Hi Tim,

I ran the XYZ-calibrations and the problem is solved! I was hoping for a beginner mistake and I got one 🤐

Thanks for the help!
