Print fan error at about the same spot every time

Hey there!

After many months of relatively trouble free prints I'm stumped at how to troubleshoot this problem.

Trying to print this iPad cover: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2859742

But at 14% in, near the end of the second layer, I get "Err: PRINT FAN ERROR". I watched it and leading up to this error I noticed the fan would shut off/on several times, but not for long enough to trigger the error.

I've looked at the gcode and don't see anything turning off the fan, except at the end. I haven't had this problem with other prints. And I unplugged/replugged the fan cable on the einsy board.

Not sure what to look at next. Any suggestions?

Sounds like cable broke inside so depending on angle/position it works or stops working.

Yep. That was it. Tried repairing but there seems to be multiple breaks and I'll have to remove too much wire. Chatted with support and they are sending a new one.

The break is right around where the wires stick out from the back of the extruder. So maybe it didn't secure things well enough and that allowed for movement.

I've had the same trouble with 3 of my 6 self-built MK3s.

I'll get about 300 hours before a break. I've tried loose & tight zip ties with the same issue appearing.

I'm thinking next go I'll strap the fan and PINDA wires to the nylon strength member so that they will have a smooth bend.

I've seen some designs pop up for cable chains, perhaps this is worth looking into. Anyone tried it with any success?

Just curious; You guys using the spiral wrap or braided cover? I too had the print fan and the pinda probe wires break. Prusa sent me replacements, but i am using the spiral wrap that came with the printer and wondering if I should change to the braided one. Don't know if that would help.

Proud owner of a Mk3 that is producing very nice prints. There is room for improvement as I learn more about it, but so far I am very happy.

That's what I thought. I'm thinking I will change over to the braided wrap.
