Re: Power Supply failure

Power panic is a small board in the plastic housing at the bottom of the power supply,
some folk have found the need for longer power and power panic leads, after a meanwell upgrade,

check so you can get suitable parts in advance

Re: Power Supply failure

Thanks! By the way, amazon.com offers "same day" delivery on the Meanwell power supply, which is just amazingly convenient!

Looks like the demand is big enough 😉

Re: Power Supply failure

Hi everyone,
Mine broke over weekend, new one coming on Friday. I hope it will work because first one failed on second print!
How to approach Prusa if the second one fails?

Re: Power Supply failure

Do you have 110V PSU?
Does anyone had 230V PSU failure so far?

I have it on 230V, Europe 🙂 just printed one model and on the second one it died. Fuse was okay. Waiting on another one.

and add M3 square nuts to the list. The thingiverse holder uses more of them than the extras that came with my MK3 kit.

be aware that there are thin M3 square nuts and thick M3 ones, prusa use the thin ones!

UPDATE: New (230V) PSU came in 4 days - fast.
External differences:
1. New one has QC Passed

2. New one has QC7 label inside, old one had QC6

3. On that yellowish components (don't know what those are 🙂 there are something written: PRPZ-240. Old one didn't have it.

--
I've put several prints so far, one in total of 15 hours 🙂 and it is working well.

I cannot hear any clicking or strange sound coming from PSU.

Re: Power Supply failure

Dear all,

just another PSU issue, that I had, which might fit into this thread. I transformed my mk3 into a ZARIBO mk3 and while doing it, I had to replace my cables. I did this with maximum care and usage of professional crimping tools.

After switching on first the GFCI failed and in a second try, the PSU did destroy itself.
Details read here: https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/hardware-firmware-and-software-help-f64/help-psu-damaged-t19196.html#unread

The problem definitely was inside the closed and sealed unit not in the area below. All cables were perfect, no tension, everything was fine.
May be putting the PSU several times upside down (during the ZARIBO conversion), cause something inside ??

Thanks,
Thomas

Tech info from T-LED website ( https://www.t-led.cz/p/led-zdroj-24v-240w-vnitrni-5525 )

Input voltage
90-132V/180-264V AC according to the switch settings
Output voltage
24V DC/10A
Fuse
thermal, short-circuit, overload protection
The performance of the
240W *
The weight of the
0.7 kg
The dimensions of the
200 x 100 x 50 mm

* !!! Warning!!! max. permanent load is recommended with min. 20% reserve for normal use, to be installed in commercial premises with the times using 8 and more hours per day continuously is the recommended permanent load due to the efficiency of switching resources with at least 30% reserve , in order to maintain the longest life source.

Moral of the story is- the PSU is underpowered, and definitely not enough headroom.
The best options are to upgrade to a larger PSU, or heat bed/extruder separately.

My PSU has given me dozens of false power outages. PR sent a replacement PSU and EINSy, since they were unsure what was actually at fault... I have yet to do the swap

Argh, Thanks for the head's up. The ones I got from Amazon turned out to be the thick ones (2.35mm thick) instead of the thin ones (1.65mm thick).

Re: Power Supply failure

Hi David, at least you now know there are two thicknesses and you don't have to worry about your designs being faulty, or redesign the models to fit your nuts...

Re: Power Supply failure

Second PSU died on one of my MK3's, it was replaced under warranty in late February, and failed yesterday morning in the middle of a print. Prusa will send me another, but this printer is down for yet another week or two. (last time it took two weeks to get it). Pretty disappointed, but this one lasted 4 months versus the one that came on the printer only lasting a month.

Re: Power Supply failure

First off, while this isnt completely on-topic for this thread, i think this is the right place for this since its discsussing the psu cases that other uses have offered.

After reading thru a large part of this thread, like others, i decided to preemptively order a meanwell (LRS 350) before my printer arrives... if it ever arrives. I looked over a few of the various designs offered on here for cases that will fit the LRS model and i settled on the model from CTilley79....

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2812350 (might as well link it once more in this thread!)

However, i also liked the look of jltx's frame brace...

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2772947 (again, one more link in this thread wont hurt)

I decided to mash them together to maybe get the best of both...? I made my own frame brace design based on jtlx's that seems like it might match the Prusa parts a bit more (jtlx's design had alot of flowing curves, and the prusa parts are all very square), and adapted the PSU fusion file CTilley graciously provided to create an offset psu mount. The idea here was that the standalone frame brace might be more rigid since its a solid piece compared to the psu case as its smaller, and has more peices, and i guess also relies on the psu itself probably for some of its strength. So attaching the psu to the side might make things more sturdy...?

I just wanted to post up some pics of the design so some more seasoned users here can tell me if this offset mount is completely stupid, or what? I dont know if it will actually throw the unit off balance since the weight of the PSU is now sitting out passed the frame, rather than directly overtop and inline with it.

So... good idea? Bad idea? Im happy to put it all up on Thingi if people like it, though, its not been printed yet so i cant guarantee its fitment. But, since its based on existing tested models, it SHOULD be fine.

Re: Power Supply failure

I would think that the power supply enclosure would provide plenty of support to the frame without adding another gusset bracket.

Re: Power Supply failure

Just had my power supply fail today.

I built the kit ~3 weeks ago, and have put in about 50 hours of printing PLA with no issues. The power supply would tick when the temperature of the bed was getting close to 60, but other than that no issue... Until I tried printing PETG, 235c tip & 85c bed, printed for about 40 minutes and then the fuse blew.

I replaced the external PSU 5amp fuse, but it still didn't work. Spoke to support online for a bit, and supposedly they're sending a new one on Monday/Tuesday. Worried to try PETG again when the new one gets here :/

No worries, just print even ABS. It's better if it's fail under warranty even if it happens multiple times.

Re: Power Supply failure

Hi ya'll,

So my new MK3 has the clicking from the power supply whenever it is turning power on to the bed. From reading this thread it says that Prusa support said this problem would be fixed by changing the PWM rate in the firmware. But that was some time ago and my printer has the latest firmware (3.3.1).

Does anyone know if more firmware changes are coming?
