Powder coated textured sheets
The more I research, it seems like Prusa might be considering discontinuing the powder coated textured sheets because of the difficulty in producing them. I am happy with mine and would like to encourage them not only to continue to strive to bring them to market; I would like them also to reconsider the decision not to produce the powder coated smooth plates.
Anybody else feels this would be rash?

Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I could definitely see this as being a possibility after they finish sending sheets to their backlog of customers. I don’t think they’d be rash if they decided to no longer continue offering them. Think about all of the sheets that they scrapped that they’re not recouping the money on if they weren’t able to not pay their vendor for them. I don’t think they want to be in another situation where they take people’s money for the sheet and not be able to fulfill orders.

I’ve noticed that the knock-offs are more expensive than the originals. I suspect if there are regrets, it’s the price point selection.
I haven’t even gotten my voucher yet, so I have no idea if it’s worth the cost, but they may need to up the price rather than discontinue.

Heck, I will buy a couple of the rejects.

Someone just sold an official Prusa textured sheet on eBay last week for over $200. It baffled me because that's nearly 1/3 the cost of the printer
Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I think the PC sheet has taken on some sort of mythical unicorn status. People expect it to do miracles. I'd like to have one,but I'm not expecting it to significantly change what I do with my printer.

At this point, I expect some 3rd party will master the process and textured sheets will become commonplace. Prusa made an effort to be the first, but reality intervened.

Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I emailed to encourage production.
Response:
Due to production issues and huge demand, we will keep the textured coated and smooth sheet available only for our customers (the ones that previously bought an original Prusa Printer.
In the future and once we improve production, it will be convenient for us to offer to everybody, but I don't know when this will happen.

Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I would definitely be disappointed if that wasn't available any longer.
From a functional perspective I don't care (and the smooth sheet is easier to clean too), but I really like the textured finish it gives.
I'm personally not too fond of shiny surfaces (don't like the glare).
I never bothered with painter's tape, but I do wonder how does it compare to the PC in terms of finish?
Re: Powder coated textured sheets
Blue tape is similar but not as textured. It really does make a good print surface but it not near as durable as the PC sheet.

Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I'm going to try something tomorrow. I don't have anything blue at hand (EU), so I'm going to try with some Tesa (which is widely available here) and see.
But... a crazy idea came to mind. Has anybody tried with... regular sand paper?
Of course you want to do that first layer calibration juuust right, but... wast choice of granularity available, and it's easy to obtain in large sheets to cut instead of rolls.
Daaamn, I have a tarantula with a nozzle that I need to replace anyway. I'm going to try in the next days!
Re: Powder coated textured sheets
hehe I bet all the sand remains stuck in the print 😀
Normal people believe that if it ainât broke, donât fix it. Engineers believe that if it ainât broke, it doesnât have enough features yet.

Re: Powder coated textured sheets
Ok, I started a new thread here:
I didn't try with sand-paper yet as I need to do some setup before, but I tried to do a texture transfer from another (glass) object using heat.
Re: Powder coated textured sheets
I cleaned my bed with soap and water and ipa. No change. I repeated it and sanded with 1500 sand paper followed by ipa. Voila! It works again.
