PLA all around the extruder.

My printer gobbed up around the extruder with pla, I preheated and tried to remove it once it was hot. Most of it came off but I’m afraid I might have damaged the wires, which were caught in the pla also. I heard and saw a spark as I was trying to manipulate the wires clear. Now when I try to heat up the block, the fans come on for about 3 seconds then shut off. Any advice on what to do next? My thoughts are I’m going to have to disassemble the extruder, but I thought I’d check first. I have turned it on and off several times.

RE: PLA all around the extruder.

Start with disassembly of the extruder.  Replace the heater cartridge and thermistor.  Hopefully the zap didnt take out the mainboard. However, probably cheaper to start with those two.  If the hotend will not heat up after replacing the two, check the fuse and possibly replace the mainboard.  Better safe then sorry, wire stuff like that can be bad news if not fixed properly, better just to replace for the peace of mind.

RE: PLA all around the extruder.

You can order them on the Prusa site for exact replacement, have to be logged in as the user that your ordered the printer as in order to see replacement parts.  Support can help if you cant see the parts.  If not, E3d parts will fit, Prusa uses E3d hotends on the i3 mk3 series printers.

If you're in the US, PrintedSolid and Filastruder stock Prusa hotend parts. They may save you shipping and time. I've ordered parts from both and recommend them.
