Wonder why it's bouncing?
It could be a loose screw, belt, or bearing, or it could be one side of the shelf is looser/farther away from the support. And since you are talking leveling it could be so small an amount that you'd never notice, but the printer does.
Yeah.... I may move it to another surface and see if it still does it. Just to rule out if it's the shelf it's on or not. Maybe while I'm at it I'll take a stab at making sure all bolts are nice and tight. And actually the thing rattles more than it should now that I think of it.... though I'm honestly not sure if the printer is rattling or if it's something on that shelf.
Also been thinking about upgrading the Y axis bearings. May do that while I'm in there.

I seems you already stopped the discussion about the pauses during bed leveling. If I remeber the articles about new process correctly, this should somehow compensate the mistakes in leveling of points being close to the magnets in the heated bed.

That weight at the top of the frame could certainly add to the vibration, true! @adammhaile might want to remove any frame-top goodies for testing.

Well no... vibration and bed movement will cause the leveling process to pause exactly as described. Yes, leveling does compensate for variations in bed level across the surface, but the symptom of pausing while doing so is what's being discussed.

OK, I did the test. Run mesh bed leveling with completely cold system and just after with preheated. This delays appears only while preheated, so temperature compensation is the reason of this.

Interesting! I always preheat mine. Just my process.... I start it up while I'm slicing so that it's ready to go when I hit "Send Gcode"
Honestly I didn't think it would do the mesh leveling at the start of a print until it was heated... are you just running it manually?

Yes, for the test, I ran it from the calibration menu manually. It gives me the sense, because while printing PET/ABS I think there is more of these delays then PLA. Now somebody can take a look to the firmware to confirm 😉

I don't get that effect with a cold system, but again the pauses were put in to compensate for differences in physical printers, so that may be a contributing factor. All of the default profiles heat the bed before doing mesh bed leveling, and this is likely why. I do the 35C PINDA warmup which ensures everything is evenly heated.

Moved it to another, likely more stable, surface and it seems to do the pause less but still does it. However, there's definitely some rattling coming from the Y-axis.
So while I probably should just leave it be since it is printing fine.... But I was already ordering some Misumi parts so I threw in some LMU8 bearings and 8mmx330mm hardened rods as I think there's a little bit of play in the y-axis. I was always a little suspect of the stock bearings but the ones coming are great quality and super quiet. Not the first time I've dismantled and re-assembled the Y-axis so shouldn't be too hard.
Anyone have a good suggested mod for the Y-axis tensioning while I'm at it?
