No heat to bed or hotend, random beep/reboot - PSU failing?

Hi, I have a mk3s that I built a few months ago that has been working flawlessly.

Today, I got a thermal runaway error which I think was down to the hot end not heating up.

All the wiring looks fine.

Initially I thought it was a failure of the hot end heater itself rather than the thermistor.

However, when doing some further testing I'm finding that neither the bed of the hot end will heat-up now and the printer appears to randomly reboot with a beep.

If I turn the power off for a while and try it all again, it seems to be working okay, but fairly quickly I get more of the same problems.

I'm wondering if the PSU is failing as it warms up (ambient is 25 degs at the mo).

Does that diagnosis sound likely?

Cheers, Ross.

Do you have a multimeter you can put on the PSU's 24VDC outputs to monitor it when this happens? That would confirm or refute.

Yeah, I'll have to give that try.  I'm guessing though that I'll have to be monitoring it when it actually drops out to prove that it's the PSU?

yes. If the voltage is fine it would suggest the issue is more likely to be with the einsy, for example.

Voltage on both 24v inputs to the Einsy seem consistent when trying to preheat the bed/hotend so I guess it must be the einsy.

Is this a common problem?   Could it be a firmware problem?   I did upgrade that recently to the latest ie. 3.7.2-2363.

Is there somewhere I can download previous firmware versions? Found them, I'll go back to 3.7.1 to see if that makes any difference.

Hmmm, nope - same issue with 3.7.1 - I'm guessing it's not the firmware although I'll maybe go back and try 3.7.0 just in case.

Be careful with older firmware; it has overheating issues with the heatbed PWM; this may actually be part of the issue as it ends up shortening the lifespan of a capacitor on the einsy.

At this point you should probably hit up live chat for further support/troubleshooting and warranty parts replacement.

Yeah, I've sent them an email, but will see if I can get them on the livechat as well.

Thanks for your help.

Just as an update - Tomas on live chat has advised me that it could be a known issue with the power panic feature on some motherboards that a new firmware (due very soon) should fix.   For now, I've pulled the power panic cable from the board and will see how it goes.

A 3hr print's going now so I'll see how that pans out.
