Mystery Layer Shift on MK3

I am suddenly getting bad layer shifts. I upgraded to 3.2.1 the other day. Don't know if that is related.

I thought it might be the extruder bumping the camera but the shift seems to be in the wrong direction and different directions. Side to side and forward an backward.

Here are photos 2 of my last 3 prints.

Any advice would be appreciated.

First off, awesome black light setup. Reminds me of my days at the roller rink back in the 80s.

Can you print any of these pieces directly from the SD card with Octoprint completely out of the picture? Removing the USB cable & camera from the printer and just let it do its thing locally.

I have read plenty of posts in the past mentioning that Octoprint was using up a lot of clock cycles on board and caused communication interrupts that had an unfortunate side effect of screwing up the stream of gcode commands being processed. That results in the shift you are seeing. I'm guessing the latest firmware still has some bugs to work out.

If you can get these pieces to print locally, could you then try to print some very basic pieces via Octoprint and see if you are still seeing shifts? Best of luck to you.

Hi,

I recognized layer shift (not as critical as yours, just a kind of seam in the print afterwards) also by printing via Octoprint, including some critical communication problems between Octoprint (on Rpi 3) and the Printer.

I changed the SD Card of the printer and replaced it by an Flash Air W04 by Toschiba and use Octoprint only for observing the printer.
Link to the flash air card: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B073LM5TRX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Funny thing: the card does not work when I switch the printer in the menu to flash air card. But in normal SD Card mode it works fine.

No issues since that anymore.

By the way: could you pls. share the STL for the webcam mount?

BR

I think you were both right. It was the latest firmware working with Octoprint. Printed something off the SD card and no problems. But had no problems on the previous version of Octoprint.

As for the black light it is actually just an RGB strip but if you get it at the right color wavelength it causes certain plastics to glow! (Photos below.)

I have never used an Air SD Card maybe I will have to give that a try until they work out the new bugs. I just really like being able to monitor the prints when I am at the office and cancel them if need be.

Here is link to the mount https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2763797 Not my design. Marteinn Sigurðsson from 3DP Iceland.

Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear you got some traction on this.

I too use the Air SD card and it is just so convenient. Just rtead the instructions carefully here in the thread for it in the forum and you'll be up and running in a few minutes. Be sure and turn on support for it in the menu on the printer. It gives a few more volts to the sd card to drive the wifi on it.
