MK3S Y Axis
I wonder if the new y axis pieces will fit the old MK3
Re: MK3S Y Axis
No definite clue, but the instructions show a Y-Axis frame that looks a lot like the one on my Mk3. The only "improvement" is the adjustment now sits under the bed, and is harder to reach; but does allow the idler pulley to be secured against the frame rather than floating on screws. The improvements seem to be tension is now one screw, not two; and is "set" with a nylon lock nut.
Re: MK3S Y Axis
I hope it is better than the current Mk3. My idle side is tight to the frame like the motor. The belt is dang near playing a C note and I could only get the stepper load to 283. It needs to be even tighter according to the 240 ± 40. There also needs to be some shimming done to keep the belt from tracking so much. They are aligned but track across the idler and the drive gear to each side.
My X is 264. The motor has no more adjustment. One more tooth and I would have been stretching the belt.
Re: MK3S Y Axis
Yes, it will fit the MK3. Print out the parts and follow the build guide.
Re: MK3S Y Axis
@nicole - it's my opinion the stepper load numbers aren't that useful, and they definitely won't indicate an over-tensioned belt. Mine show around 280. I've run my belt tension from sloppy to twangy guitar and my numbers change about 10 points. I changed bearings and the numbers changed 15. I changed FW and they changed 10. What I can say - in my case - is if the two belts are tensioned a lot different, the number will be different. But even that isn't something I'd depend on.
Buy a low range (25lb) fish scale for $15 and measure the belt deflection. At 2 pounds pull on the lower belts, axis to one end, the belt should deflect about 1/4 to 3/8 inch.
