MK3S+ randomly stops extruding at various heights during printing.
My MK3s+ has started to stop extruding mid print at various heights for some reason.
I assumed it was just getting older and the hotend was starting to go so I replaced it with a REVO, did all the tests and it is working fine.
But again the first major print I tried it stopped extruding at about 2 inches off the bed and just kept running the file. It seems to be random heights and with different files so I know its not the files themselves.
Anyone else had this happen? How do I fix it?
RE: MK3S+ randomly stops extruding at various heights during printing.
are there any error messages?
what filament are you using?
are you using an enclosure (PLA in an enclosure, can get heat creep and jam) If you are lucky enough to be somewhere very warm, you can also get heat creep
is the filament breaking? filament can break below the filament sensor, so the printer thinks it's getting filament, but the extruder does not get any filament... (Happened to me with a very old roll of white PLA filament last night)
is the extruder motor rotating? As printers age, the constant movement of the wires can cause fractures, a broken wire in the extruder circuit can intermittently cause the motor to quiver, instead of rotating.
Is the extruder idler tight enough?
is the filament jamming? do you need to unload and reload the filament after it stops printing
Are you using the right temperatures?
other people may have other ideas

RE:
No error messages at all.
Random brands of filament I have all used before without issue. But generally Prusament, Sunlu, or Overture.
No enclosure.
No breaking.
As far as I can tell the motor is fine. Though replacing the extruder assembly itself was the next thing on my list if there is not other fix suggested. Though this issue only seems to be happening with a print that goes over 2-3 inches high. Which is why I haven't replaced it already.
Idler is set properly.
No jamming.
Temperatures are correct.

can you draw a line on the motor spindle, and check whether it is actually rotating?
do you have to remove and re instate the filament after a failed print?

I will give that a try.
I remove the filament after a failed print as a matter of course and run a cleaning filament through just to clear any gunk or debris so I can't honestly say if it would just start printing again if I started another file.
