mk3s only works 3 months of the year due to mintemp and mintemp bed errors

My mk3s lives in the basement, where it has been nonfunctional since the warmer months. There doesn't seem to be a way to avoid mintemp and mintemp bed errors even as I scramble to preheat after startup. Is there a way to use this printer in a cool room?

I used a hairdryer.   There is a mod you can make to the firmware

Does anyone know if the Mk4 still has this issue?

Thank you. I'd be interested in this firmware mod.

What is the temperature range you are talking about? Never had that problem with my MK3S. In the winter the temperature of the room it is in could get down to about 12 to 14 °C.
What you could try is putting a pan with some warm water on the heatbed for a few minutes. Remove the pan before switching on the printer!!! And a simple enclosure from a cardboard box can help keeping the heat from escaping.

RE:

Get an enclosure. It also helps you save energy. If you print anything other than PLA you definitely want an enclosure in a cold room anyway. Otherwise you are seriously compromising your material performance.

There are cheaper 3rd party alternatives to the official Prusa enclosure if you want an easy solution your you build one yourself with some profiles and PMMA sheets. Or you can get some cheaper smaller server enclosure, there is at least one model around which doesn't break the bank and fits an MK3. If that doesn't suffice get a small electric heater to preheat the enclosure.

Thanks. That page appears to say the mk3s doesn't support environments below 20ºC! My living space isn't even that warm. My basement is around 12º right now.

Make sure the temperature of the room where you operate the printer is not below 20 ° C (happens easily if you keep the printer in a basement during winter).

I found this out the hard way, but I'm hoping to find a precompiled fixed firmware. An enclosure could be a complete solution if the printer generates heat while in mintemp error mode. Hope to try this soon if I have a big enough box.

The page says the error is triggered if the bed is below 10 °C. For good printing results the ambient temperature of the printer should be around or over 20 °C. Best use an enclosure. The heat bed can keep the temperature in an enclosure at a sufficient level then. You can build a very cheap enclosure out of carton sheets or even plastic bags with some scaffolding (some two by fours or something like that). But pay attention that there is enough clearance around the moving bed and the moving cables to avoid entanglement.

I put the Prusa in a big box, which amplifies the sound, making it sound like DRV8825 drivers. But it didn't solve the mintemp error. So I also got a hair dryer to cook the printer before printing. Now my screen has gone white and is almost unreadable. Is this from the cooking? I could solve the problem by having a heater permanently on inside the box, but this would be, ironically, a fire risk.

If someone knows of a firmware fix, would greatly appreciate!

The screen on the MK3S is very dependent on the viewing angle. Did you try to change your viewing position?
As a countermeasure for the sound amplification you can try to put a paver under the printer to decouple it from the box. I can also recommend the squash ball feet mod on Printables.

Thanks. The screen is now just barely readable at about 75º off axis, getting the angle just right. Plain white rectangles otherwise. The box is on concrete.
