Is the fan nozzle shroud necessary?

Hi,

I am printing nine copies of an object, one by one, i.e.:
Print Settings->Output options->Complete individual objects is checked in Slic3r PE.

When the printer started to print the third copy, a crash occurred and the fan nozzle shroud was broken.
I have seen (videos and pictures) that some people don't have it in their printers.

I will buy PETG and print a new one.
Can I continue using the printer normally in the meantime?
Is the fan nozzle shroud necessary?

TIA

Re: Is the fan nozzle shroud necessary?

printers are available without fan shrouds but they tend to have poor output.

can you glue your current shroud back together?and refit?
have you got a desk fan, you could use temporarily?

do you have a friend with a 3d printer?

where do you live?

regards Joan

Hi Joan!

With this accident I learned that the warning:
"Slic3r should warn and prevent you from extruder collisions, but beware."
is there for a good reason.

Good to know it.
Output is very important for me.

That worked! I used superglue.

I haven't tried because I thought I had to get a special glue (like while working with PLA), but after searching what could work for PETG some people say superglue works very well if the piece won't be under stress.

My printer has been working for 2 hours and the shroud is still there. 🙂

do you have a friend with a 3d printer?

Not yet. 🙁
But there are a few places that offer 3D printing as a service. I didn't think about it.

where do you live?

I live in Costa Rica.

It is hard to find some stuff here. For example, I wasn't able to find a store selling E3D nozzles. I had to buy the kit at Amazon.
Luckily, I found a store that sells filament at good price and I am happy with the output quality.
Other stores offer very expensive filament.
Buying online is an option but, after taxes plus other costs, the final price is high.

Thanks again for your help.

LOL

Hi Joan,

Yes, weather is a crazy thing here. It is common to go from a very hot and sunny day to one with heavy downpours and wind.

I live at the other side of the world from UK. Costa Rica is this small country.

It isn't a perfect country, but it's a great place to live. It worth all the taxes. 🙂

Have a great day!
