Hotend Thermistor Replacement

I have started getting a hotend thermal runaway error when attempting prints on my printer. So far I've verified or tried the following:

  • ambient temperature is above 20°C

  • thermistor connection to PCB is secure (tried reseating it also)

  • thermistor set screw is not loose

  • using default Prusa PLA profiles for Sli3er (so fan settings shouldn't be an issue)

  • no apparent damage to fan shroud
  • I was going to attempt to cut the connectors out and solder the wires directly to the thermistor per the troubleshooting article on the subject but was unable to remove the thermistor from the hotend even after completely removing the set screw.

Does anyone have any suggestions about how to proceed in removing it without damaging the hotend? Also, should this not work and I need to replace the thermistor where can I purchase one?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

Prusa sells them, so does E3D.

I'd replace the thermistor. If it is so deformed it doesn't easily pull out of the hole, the damage probably extends into the cartridge itself. And a cracked thermistor will exhibit intermittent failures.

When installing the new thermistor, take care you don't over-tighten it.
