Hotend Heater not working

Just got a new heatend for my mk3s and after installing and trying to heat it up, it just didnt heat at all and just stayed at room temperature. So far I have tried to change around the wires, unplug and replug and made sure the wires were insterted correctly to no avail.
Is there something I have overlooked or did I recieve a bad one by any chance?

Hello and welcome in Prusaforum,

does an error message appear after a certain period of time? Does the bed heating work? What appears on the LCD when you have selected preheat (picture)?

@karl-herbert

When pressing preheat the heatbed starts warming no issu, the printhead does not and after awhile I just get the same prehead error message.

Hi Marco,

Start simple...
you are posting in the Mk3 / Mk3S section of the forum, so I guess you have a Mk3 /S printer.

the Mk3 Printer series have a 24 volt Power Supply,

Did you make sure you bought a 24 volt heater?

If you Bought a 12 volt heater in error, the Wrong heater will try to draw 160watts instead of the normal 40 watts, and you may have blown the Fuse on your controller.

another possibility is that you may have short circuited the heater wires, with a similar effect.

the fuses are difficult to see to check whether they have blown, so using a test meter would probably be easier, if you have one.
regards Joan

@marcojeppesen

You are now owner of a 3D printer and I would recommend to buy a cheap multimeter (Fluke 101) or similar.

With this I would check the output voltages (24V) on the Einsy and also the internal resistances of the thermistor and the heating cartridge.

thermistor: about 100k ohms at 25degrees C.

24V/40watts heating cartridge: about 14.4 ohms

With this you could already check/exclude possible hardware errors.
