Hotbed noisy vibrations

Hello,

I've used my printer quite steadily for the last few months.

A few weeks ago it started making this noisy vibration. I can tell it is from the hotbed, since putting a finger on the hotbed stops the vibration.

Also, the vibration only occurs when the Y axis is close to the edge, like on the video.

Ive already tightened the screws I thought could be involved (hotbed, Y-axis belt)

Check to make sure the steel sheet is not stuck on the screw standoffs. I was pushing my sheet to the standoffs and then lowering to the bed. This caused the sheet to get stuck on the threads of the standoffs causing a small gap and the rattle. At least that is where my rattle was happening. Here is an example. Hope that helps.

Hi Pascal,

i have the exact same issue as you described it sounds like in your video and pressing the hot bed removes the resonance.

Did you find a solution? What i found is that the bearings under the bed cause this vibration/ratteling and they have to replaced. Did you replace them too?

I have the same issue. (for almost 2 yrs). Things I've done:

- greased the Y-bed bearings. Didn't help.
- replaced the Y-bed bearings. Didn't help.
- replaced the Y-rods and the bearings. Didn't help.

I think the vibration is caused by the stepper motors.

RE:

Hi guys, I also have these issues. I just opened another thread, since seems that there is no solution yet. Or did you solve the problem? Mine is starting to be unbearable (see video). Regards, Oliver

Addendum: Pushing the heat bed down does not change anything. It seems to be the printhead.

RE: Hotbed noisy vibrations

Hi,

I was able to resolve this issue with mine. I picked up a tube of super lube, printed an angled applicator and repacked the bearings. I also rotated one of the bearings that seemed to be the cause. I think if repacking the bearing doesn’t work for you, try replacing them. Also pack the new  with grease before installing them. I am not sure if they are packed well or if the grease is not as good from the factory, but it doesn’t hurt to pack them before installing them.  Good luck. Let us know how it works out.

OP here.

I've physically brought my printer to Prusa in Prague. The technician told me the vibrations do happen, but shouldnt affect the quality of the print, which I thought was the case.

He told me the fail prints have two main causes:

  • The hotbed is not grease-free.
  • THe hotbed is not hot enough everywhere. Apparently the automatic preheat before a print is a tradeoff between heat spread quality and print delay, and they favor reducing the print delay. So he recommended using the standalone preheat feature for a significant period of time, so the heat is uniformely spread over the hotbed (especially on the corners), before starting the print.

Hope it helps your case.
