gears not pulling filament
Hi, hoping someone can help me out, I'm sure I'm just missing something stupid.
I have an MK3S with MMU2S. I have decided to bypass the MMU2S for now due to some difficulties. So I followed instructions I found disconnecting the red and black power cable and the green, brown, and white sensor cables from the MMU2S.
I then was able to load filament directly into the extruder. When I do so, the bondtech gears do what they should and extrude filament until the color is right. If I say no, the correctly extrude more.
Then I tried doing a first layer calibration. From what I can tell, the gears are not pushing the filament at all. I make sure there was no resistance, and still the filament doesn't get moved. I tried unloading and checking if I needed to cut some off, still no filament extrusion.
So, I thought, maybe with the MMU2S bypassed perhaps I need to slice my own first layer calibration selecting only an MK3S printer. Again, no extrusion. It's like the gears are not engaging and turning except when loading the filament. What am I missing?
RE: gears not pulling filament
Is the Extruder motor running? Sounds like it feeds but you may be using the PRUSA Slicer Printer setting for the MMU, if so you will need to re-slice with MK3S only setting. You can also feed manually by going to Settings where there is a selection for the Extruder.
Occasionally the filament gets ground down and becomes too thin for the feed gears to engage. Cut off 20 cm and try again.
I use the MMU2 mostly yo select different filaments and occasionally need an additional color. I slice this print with the MK3A only printer setting and manually feed the hot end with the different filament. Seems to work, I don't get asked about a correct color.

Is the Extruder motor running? Only when I auto feed filament. So I know it works. Sounds like it feeds but you may be using the PRUSA Slicer Printer setting for the MMU, if so you will need to re-slice with MK3S only setting. I tried this. same result. Those are exactly the troubleshooting steps I tried. Not sure what to do next.
