G-Code compatability between mini and mk3

Hi everyone,

sorry if this has been asked before - I tried the search but was unable to find an answer.

I am brand new to 3D-printing and I'm planning to print this model:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/16996-airmanagerv2-recirculating-air-filter-for-3d-print

on my new mini+ but the g-code provided there is marked as "Prusa MK3/S/S+".

Can I still use this directly on the mini (i.e. is the g-code compatible between the two?) or do I have to slice it from the STL-files for the mini explicitly?

Thanks in advance,

Estrich

Hi Estrich,
Unfortunately no you can't use the Gcode directly,
the Mk3 series have a direct extruder, and the Mini, has a Bowden feed remote Extruder
this means that the retraction settings are different.  ( Mk3 series typically uses 0.8mm retractions, and the Mini typically uses 3.2mm retractions.
You could try editing the Gcode, to revise the Retraction and detraction settings, but it will probably be a pain...

If you have access to the STL, I would re slice the file, fresh.

In general the best idea is always to reslice it. Not only because of the profound differences Joan pointed out between printer types. Even if you have the same printer that the gcode was created for, your filament may require somewhat different settings to get the best results.
