Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Mine was built at the end of May I believe. (as a kit)
So, not time difference as to hardware then (mine was a kit, too).
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Any advice?
Yes, but you may not like it!
If you believe the firmware update did this, the obvious is to revert it and see.
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
HI john.l34, it looks to me like you don't have enough squish (need to make z offset more negative).
I use a big (50 mm) square that's 0.2 mm thick to check the z offset rather than the built in pattern.
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Since installing the new firmware 3.3.1 I can't get a working result (see photo). I have run through all the calibration routines and seem to get a good result from them, but when a full deck job is run there is an inconsistence.
Any advice?
Hi John,
looks like you have insufficent Squish!'
there is an option on the LCD screen
'bed level correction' this allows you to adjust the front, back left and right edges to give a better result
have you tried Jeff Jordan's 'Life adjust My Way'... I find it more easy than the prusa first layer calibration...
the version6.1 files are at the bottom of the first page.
and they are sliced for PLA PETG and ABS, which is more helpful than the PLA Only Prusa first layer config.

Hi Joan.. where are those files located? The bottom of the first page in this thread? Or the forum?

Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Odd problem. 3.3.1-845 appears to install OK as verified on the Mk3 Support screen. However I get an error message from AVRDude within Slic3r 1.40.1+win64:
Full log at bottom, but here is the fail:
========================
avrdude: prusa_init_external_flash(): MK3 printer did not boot up on time or serial communication failed
avrdude: arduino_open(): Failed to initialize MK3 external flash programming mode
========================
Again, all appears well but I do get a fail message.

Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
I just upgraded to 3.3.1 from 3.2.1, and now bed leveling fails. When I go to print, it gets to where it should do its little bumping action for bed leveling, and instead returns this error:
Bed leveling failed.
Sensor didn't trigger
. Debris on nozzle?
Waiting for reset
No debris or nozzle issues. I tried recalibrating Z and Mesh Bed Leveling, and both result in the same error. When I go back to firmware 3.2.1 it works fine. I tried firmware 3.3.0, which I had previously skipped, and it results in the same error. I'm going to stick with 3.2.1 for now.
Another problem happened during the firmware upgrade process - some of the original menu settings were lost. For example, on the main menu > preheat it used to show
PLA - 215/60
PET - 230/85
ABS - 255/100
HIPS - 220/100
PP - 254/100
FLEX - 230/50
Cooldown
now it shows:
farm - 250/60
nozzle - 250/60
Cooldown
ABS - 255/100
Even trying a factory reset doesn't return the original values. Any way to get the original values back?
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Hi Peel,
it looks like you may have a wrong copy of the firmware,
with a menu like that, I suspect the firmware is for the Prusa print farm printers, which I believe use 3mm filament, which is unlikely to match your hardware.
so I would check the source of the firmware and try re flashing.
mine is version 3.3.1-845

Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Noob here...
I have the mk3 calibrated and printing fine, but could not firmware update. {Firmware 3.3.1 & drivers 2.18}
The COM1 could not detect the mk3, control panel has a yellow exclamation mark beside it.
For a week I read the forums, followed the instructions and tried myself to fix it. https://help.prusa3d.com/l/en/article/gXdRubco3u-firmware-updating-flashing-problems
My Win7 & win8 was not detecting the drivers properly for Slic3r, so not connecting to the printer.
I finally cave in and chatted with Prusa support for 1.5hrs, who had me repeat the same fixes posted on the forums. Also, had me reset the back to factory. Then they told me its a win7 & win 8 problem, Slic3r does not support it. Told me to update to windows 10.
I didn't have win10 available and tried Ubuntu.
Had Slic3r installed on Ubuntu, but ran into the same problem on the firmware update screen.
Contacted Prusa Support, & told me he is a mac guy, don't know linux.
1) Finally, I uninstall all prusa sofwtare.
2) Install drivers 2.1.6. & the yellow exclamation mark went away in control panel
3) Install drivers 2.18 for latest version of Slic3r
4) Using Slic3r, was able to connect to the printer and firmware update to 3.3.1-845
My Mk3 kit was ordered in March 2018, arrived in May 2018. Was a slacker and didn't finish assembling it till July.
The firmware it came with was 3.1.1.xxx.
Assembly went fine, but took me a while to figure out calibration.
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
I don't know if this a bug, but since upgrading to v3.3.1 when I Autoload filament, Z axis randomly moves up a little, maybe 5cm or so. This could be fatal if someone has Z already on the limit....

Did you read the release notes?
"- Load filament improvement: if nozzle is lower than 20 mm on Z-axis during filament loading, the nozzle will move up to ensure more space for nozzle cleaning"
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Apparently, I did not 😀
Ooops 🙂

I had also downloaded 3.3.1-845. After a little research, it looks like a timeout on the initial unsuccessful attempt at upgrading the firmware had caused the printer to switch itself to farm mode (it seems the version we use is the same as they use in the Prusa farm, we just don't normally get to see the hidden features). I eventually found a setting under settings that said disable farm mode. That did the trick. All of the preheat presets were returned to normal, and the bed leveling works as it should now. - Side note, once out of farm mode the toggle switch in settings disappeared.
I will note that when in farm mode the bed leveling wasn't working because it was trying to find the bed about 5 mm or so higher than it actually is. I wonder if they have a different bed setup (thicker platform, or a sub-carrier?) on the farm that accounts for that discrepancy.
Anyway, all is right again. Just wanted to report out on my findings in case anyone else finds themselves in farm mode and doesn't know how to get out.
P.S. A telltale method to know you're in farm mode is that the info screen says farm: ##### in the center of the screen (on the line where USB or SD Card normally is), with ##### being the unique printer number that differentiates it on the farm.
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
So my printer seems to be working remarkably well. What is the general consensus? Are there issues with the newest firmware that would make you not upgrade? Are there any benefits (other than the change to filament loading) that would make this worth upgrading a printer that seems to be working very well?
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
Hi there,
new version of firmware 3.3.1 is out! This is a final version recommended to all MK3 and MK2.5 owners 😉
....
What's the deal with firmware 3.4.0? I see there's an RC1 on the Github site...
https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases/tag/v3.4.0-RC1
When I compiled it it shows as 3.3.1 build 845 so I went to the main site and pulled down the latest 3.4.0 RC1, https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/commit/a11ae18f7eefaafd3ad3a15025e2e47c98b5b67e but when I try to compile it I get an error. To make sure the problem wasn't with the build I tried a few earlier builds but am also unable to compile them. However the 3.3.1 version labeled as 3.4.0-RC1 compiles without issue. Has something changed?
Thanks
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
When I upgraded this firmware I got a horrible continuous tone that never stopped. I had to go back to 3.2.1 to return it to an operating machine. Any suggestions?
Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
I have tried to update firmware on my MK3 from 3.2.x to 3.3.1, using Slic3rPE 1.40.1. After successful flash (verify), slic3r tries to do some command which fails (Slic3rPE UI says 'Flashing failed'):
avrdude: arduino_open(): Failed to initialize MK3 external flash programming mode

avrdude: verifying ...
avrdude: 253630 bytes of flash verified

Re: Firmware 3.3.1 for Original Prusa i3 MK3
I can't get this version to load filament. The extruder gears don't seem to move at all. Reverting to firmware 3.2.1 fixed the problem.
