Firmware 3.14.1 Filament loading/unloading
Can someone please help. I am not understanding how auto filament loading is now supposed to work? Ideally, I just like to use the same process I've used for the past few years.
Process I'd like to use:
1) power on printer with no filament loaded
2) select file to print from SD card
3) printer warms up based on the filament in the SD file
3) printer does its bed leveling check
4) then lifts print head at the front of the build plate and prompts to load filament
5) I load filament and have a chance to remove any curled up filament sticking to the nozzle and then select ok to start print.
Is there a way to make this new firmware behave like pre 3.14 firmware?
Alternatively, is there a YouTube video showing how the autoload filament is supposed to work (all the videos I see are a couple years old and show the process above)? It seems like I now have to preselect the filament which warms up the print head, so I can load the filament. Then the printer goes through its bed leveling process and begins to print? If I don't preload the filament, the printer warns at cold start up about no filament but doesn't provide an opportunity to load filament type based on the file selected and just happily starts printing without filament?
RE: Firmware 3.14.1 Filament loading/unloading
I always pre-heat my system before printing since I leveled the bed. I will start the preheat and then go to load the filament. I then load the filament while the printer is still heating. I do have one issue with this. If I put the filament all the way in, it wants to unload the filament. I have to wait to pull the filament out past the sensor and then press the button, push the filament in quickly.
Just tested, starting with a cold printer, select Load Filament, select filament type and insert filament, wait for beep and follow the screen.
I always load filament before selecting a file to print.

Thanks for the reply and confirming. I tried preloading as you describe and it works fine, so all good.
I got so used to loading the filament as the last step I thought there should still be a way to do this with the latest firmware but apparently not? Is there some advantage to preloading the filament over loading last that I'm missing? Is there a reason for removing the ability to load the filament last?
One advantage of loading the filament as the last step is that you have a chance to pull off the hardened bit of pre-extruded filament hanging from the nozzle right before or just as the nozzle/head is descending towards the print bed to start printing. This ensures the nozzle is completely clear of any oozing or curled up filament that can mess up that first layer or fall into your print later on. For now I've rolled back to 3.12.2 firmware as I prefer loading the filament last.
