Filament Sensor Malfunction

Hi again all and happy new year!

I had a slight jam of filament while changing from PET to PLA, nothing major except for a few motor ticks, which cleared on its own in a few seconds.
However, now I can no longer print with the filament sensor on.
If I leave it on, after the first test line, the printer goes up and gives me the message "Press Button to change filament" repeatedly.
I tried turning the lights off as some suggested here in this forum, unloaded and reloaded the filament twice, but alas... It keeps going back to this message.
Turning off the filament sensor allows the print to continue with no issues.

What should I do next?

Thanks,

Ami

Hi Ami,

If you have access to a can of Air duster, use it with the injection nozzle to blow through the hole behind the silly plastic plug which clips on the bondtech access door hinge pin...

If you don't have access to Air duster,
Remove the sensor (REMEMBER IT IS SCREWED IN PLACE) wipe the lens clean and re install the sensor, and try again... (not forgetting to re insert the silly plug)...

if all else fails, disable the sensor. and consider modifying your printer to have a ball race between the filament and the sensor...

I find that the sensor doesn't like shiny filament, dull is ok
doesn't like transparent or translucent filament and doesn't like certain colours such as Lime Green...

Regards Joan

Re: Filament Sensor Malfunction

Hi again @Joan.T,

I tried using compressed air, and cleaning the sensor, but that didn't help.
The message keeps coming back and I can't print with the sensor on.

This is very disappointing.
I would think that by now Prusa would have this feature solid and working as it should, it was one of the reasons I paid extra to get this printer.

Thanks for the link for the bearing mod, seems like I will have no choice but to go that route.

Cheers and happy new year,

Ami
