Fan shroud, is it really needed?
Following a few prints the PETG fan shroud start to melt and the extremity fall down to the point of scratching the print, especially on 2nd layer tearing everything apart.
Question is: is the shroud really needed? The fan is already oriented to cool down the area, so I’m not really sure about how much the shroud improve the situation.
Any thoughts?
RE: Fan shroud, is it really needed?
Given how many people have designed "improved" shrouds you'd think it's the most important part of the printer...
Jsw got it right. Will your particular model need it ? Maybe, maybe not. But in general you're better off with it. The other issue with the single fan design is that the backside of models get less cooling which will be more profound if you have overhangs in that area. With a shroud you have at least some chance of getting enough air back there
