Extruder repair

I had a bit of an issue (user error I'm sure) and filament melted around my extruder. I cleaned it all off but in the process one of the cables for the extruder broke off.

Is this a fairly easy solder and good to go repair? I want to be sure before I take my iron to it. I had some really nice prints in the first day and want to get back to printing.

Re: Extruder repair

I'm pretty sure the extruder runs too hot for regular solder to last very long or even stay solid. Probably would have to use some special high temperature solder or just replace the heater element. I remember some recommendation to protect the connections using Kapton tape to prevent that problem, I'm sure someone with actual experience can say more.

Inspired to get into 3D printing by Micah Elizabeth Scott, Naomi Wu, and an anonymous Bitcoin girl I met in college.

Re: Extruder repair

I would replace the heater cartridge,

I ordered a replacement 24 volt ceramic heater on ebay, from Makers Hut, less than £3.00 including Uk delivery

Re: Extruder repair

Hey Joan, do you know if it’s 40w or 60w?

For those of you in the US, which brand did you get?

Thanks
