Extruder jammed, tore it apart, still can't find the problem.

I had a filament run-out (on purpose, trying to use up a roll). The printer didn't eject the remaining portion properly. More the fool I, I decided that maybe I could fix it by just loading in the new filament. Nope. I tore the extruder halfway apart once and got the remainder of the old filament out, but the new filament wouldn't load. I took the whole thing apart this evening and cleaned what I could, then reassembled it. But it still doesn't work. I tried adjusting the idler spring tension, also with no effect.

Other things to look at?

I don't think that's it. It's jamming before it gets that far. I took the extruder apart again, and it looks like the extruder gear slipped and is now blocking the filament pathway. I tried to fix that, but it didn't work. I will tear it down, again, this evening.

I got it working by adjusting the extruder gear. I think I broke the filament detection, which means I have to manually load filament, but I can live with that.
