Extruder Failure?
After many months of printing with my mark3 (upgraded to 3S in April) I appear to have a problem with the extruder drive system. I was performing a colour change when the new filament loaded but then did not extrude. The 'Filament Unload' did not work so I removed it manually. The nozzle was not blocked as some of the new filament came out under gravity.
I then did a cool-down and restart and tried to load the filament. Selecting 'Load Filament' the menu did not change to 'Insert Filament' it just reverted to 'Load Filament' then 20-30 seconds later it asked if the filament was the correct colour despite the extruder motor operating. Suspecting a problem with the filament detector I tested that separately and the signal on the white wire was consistent with the filament being in place.
I re-flashed the latest firmware and tried again with the same results. Under the settings menu I can manually move the X, Y and Z axes but not the Extruder (with the hot end at 210 degrees).
Please can anyone suggest how I identify what is wrong and how to fix it.
RE: Extruder Failure?
Hi Michael,
is the extruder temperature above 195C?
is the extruder plug firmly inserted in the Einsy?
are the wires firmly inserted in the extruder plug?
if both of those are ok, is the motor shaft rotating? or remaining stationery when you use the settings move extruder option?
have you checked the resistances of the motor coils?

RE: Extruder Failure?
Whenever I have tried the extruder I have had the hot end at the PLA temperature. I have checked the plug to the mother board. The motor is not even trying to rotate which is why \i was surprised when loading the filament the 'Is the colour correct' question appeared. I will check the resistance of the coils and let you know.
RE: Extruder Failure?
I have just measured the resistance,
blue - red 6.8 ohms
black - green 6,9 ohms
Is it worth trying to swap the E motor to the X drive and see if it moves?
p.s. thanks for your help
RE: Extruder Failure?
Does anyone know what the coil resistance of the extruder motor should be? Plugging the extruder motor into the x drive and trying to move it under settings produced no results, So am a t a loss to know what to try next.
