Extruder blob destroyed my thermostat wire ;(

Hello,

I just recently finished putting together my MK3 and I've printed about a dozen different projects with it. After some calibrations it was working great and I was able to get some of the bench marks out in nice quality. Unfortunately, during an overnight print I had a extruder blob occur and it made quite the mess. After following the YouTube tutorial about fixing the issue it still damaged the thermostat wires as the filament had pushed its way back into the wires ... any idea if i can salvage them from this point or do I have to order a few new parts? (note: I took the blower off to better access the blob of death)

Thanks for your help!
Alton

You can salvage the hot end but the thermistor and heater are toast - bin jobs.

Dismantle everything hot end related at the controller, remove and dismantle the hot end. Once you get the plastics out of the way you can apply heat to release the thermistor and heater Heat will be needed to unglue the screws and clean the parts off the hot end i.e the damage parts you may be able to get away with not removing the nozzle.

To apply heat use a hot air gun or judicious and careful applications of a butane pencil torch. Just get everything else out of the way, don't worry about the heater thermistor wires they're trash.

You will need this page to be sure of getting it back together with the new parts and if you are in Europe you can get your replacement parts from them as well Prusa buy the hot ends in their printers from them

Thanks for the replies!

I've contacted Prusa concerning what happened and i'm looking into which parts that I'll need to order now.

Neil, I hope I can get away with just buying the thermistor and heater as opposed to the entire hot end. There's a big price jump between ordering the 2 wire sets vs. the hot end : /

20ish

Randolph, thanks for the url with the info, i'll go through it later tonight.

I was really hoping to have that D&D case printed off for Friday...oh well hah.

Thanks all,
Alton
