Extremely hot extruder motor

Need some advice, as my extruder motor is getting awfully hot. I don't have any means of taking an exact measure, but when compared by touch to the heated bed at 90*C it was the same or even hotter.
Also, the printer started beeping a few times, but didn't display any error message, not sure if it was due to temperature or something else.

Re: Extremely hot extruder motor

Have you updated to the latest firmware? They fixed this problem by reducing the amount of current on the extruder.

Re: Extremely hot extruder motor

Let's be clear here:

The latest firmware on the Prusa ( https://www.prusa3d.com/drivers/#firmware ) is 3.1.3, release March 8th.

I suspect Gaston is referring to the latest development release 3.2.0, only available on github ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/releases ). These development releases usually are posted for ambitious users to try for awhile, and make sure there are no nasty issues. Since 3.2.0 has progressed from initial Release Candidate to a current "Release" status, you can generally assume this is about to become official and can trust to be a good solid package. I've been running 3.2.0 for many days now, and it is working just fine.

I would think this is the final release?

Re: Extremely hot extruder motor

If the extruder motor gets so hot then you have a problem in the filament path that needs to be fixed.
For some reason (as you have to find), the filament is so sluggish that it overloads the motor.
An overloaded motor usually does not get so old.

The temperature of my extruder motor rarely reaches 45 degrees.
