Enforced Z leveling damaged PEI sheet

Happy holidays everybody!

I've encountered the same problem that others here have reported here - "Some error occured, Z-Leveling enforced". The printer went ahead automatically and re-leveled the Z by going all the way up, and then tried to continued the print process.
However, the leveling must have offset the Z axis because it now hit the PEI sheet and scratched it pretty nicely.
It took me some 15 seconds to realize something was wrong and hit reset, by that time the damage has already been done, all by the printer on its own.
See attached photo, yes - that is a scratch...
Several attempts to reprint caused the error to come back.
Following the advice from the other threads, I've lowered the PINDA sensor a bit, retracted the Live Z setting by 0.2mm and now it seems to print, but not very good. Not sure if it also damaged the nozzle, but it seems that details are now 'smeared' so I've stopped printing for now.
I'm using firmware version 3.5.0-1749.

Please advise,

Ami

UPDATE: After following advice from my other post ( https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/assembly-and-first-prints-troubleshooting-f62/why-is-first-layer-calibration-limited-to-pla-only-t26782.html ), and recalibrating Live Z using the test pattern from https://shop.prusa3d.com/forum/-f6/life-adjust-z-my-way-t2981.html , print quality seems to have improved a lot. I will try printing some more intricate patterns and report back.
