Does mk3 warn if you forget to attach PEI sheet ?

I am very new to 3d printing. Whenever I take off a print, I always put the PEI sheet back on the heatbed at the earliest opportunity. Why ? Because I am worried that one day I'll forget to notice the huge sign saying do not print on this surface, and kick off a print on the heatbed !

So, my question is what would happen ? Would the Prusa detect the error (from Z level) and suspend ? Would it damage the heatbed ?

If you're lucky it'll detect the heat trace in the bed plate and simply print on the bed plate (not good). If you're not lucky it wont detect the heat trace and will simply plow into the bed as the PINDA doesn't see anything.

Keep doing what you're doing. Always replace the PEI sheet after use.

It will crash into the bed and try to push right through it. If you're not quick on the power switch this may cause all sorts of damage to the bed and the nozzle. It is a definite no-no. Keep your sheet on the bed except when actually removing prints.

If I know well, the printer will first probe for his home postion. So it will find the first PINDA-spot on the heatbed.

Beat me, I would say, nothing happens.

Errm... no, it won't. Home is not aligned with that point.

Ask me how I know... 😯

Thanks to everyone for their comments.  Maybe nobody else is as absent minded as me, but I can see myself getting so comfortable with just selecting 'Print from SD' etc. that I don't notice the sheet is not on the bed.  I will keep to my procedure of always putting the PEI sheet on the heatbed as fast as possible.

I am actually a bit surprised that the Mk3 can't detect this mistake.  Shouldn't the Z level be way off the calibrated position ?

The problem is it won't sense the bed when the sheet is absent; it's like having a printer with no or a broken endstop switch. It will keep going and going to try to find the zero point when the sensor trips.

It might help you remember if you add to your workflow to always give the printbed a quick wipe with some IPA before printing. Hopefully you should notice the missing print surface when wiping the bed down.

ya, just get in the habit of making sure the plate is clean after hitting print.  I have been known to forget a print was on the bed a few times...has not happened in a long time now.

I have a Prusa,therefore I research.
