Do we need to remove lubricant from Misumi rods?

Hi, some members mentioned that we need to put the bearings in IPS alcohol to remove the oil in the bearings and apply SuperLube. What about the rods? The three pairs arrived. Two pairs are oily but for the 3rd pair, they just put the rods inside a bag without lubricant. I am concerned that during travel, such free movement of two metals could have damaged each other.

I added lubricant but did not remove any.

The rods are pretty hard and pretty smooth, so they're unlikely to damage each other.  So far as dry or oily, the oil on the rods is probably either to retard corrosion or left over from manufacture ... I would wipe down the rods with IPA and apply oil, grease or nothing, as you prefer.

So far as the bearings, I believe Prusa orders them from Misumi lubricated.  Otherwise linear bearing are usually shipped with rust preventative rather than lubricant.   If in doubt, it's probably best to clean them out with the strongest IPA you can find, either 90% drugstore or 99% technical grade, allow the IPA to dry out and then pack them thoroughly with SuperLube.    I did this several weeks ago and the Y-axis noise is still much reduced, so SuperLube seems better that the Deoxit L260 I had previously used.

It is certainly not a disadvantage to remove the corrosion protection before greasing. This is also how Misumi describes it. It is only important that the linear bearings are lubricated with a suitable grease (f.e. Alvania S2 from Showa Shell Sekiyu). However, the grease should not be pressed into the bearings. Approx. 0.5 grams/bearing are usually sufficient.

No. I had to add some lubrication.

Misumi also supplies pre-greased linear bearings. The bearings supplied by Prusa are usually only protected against corrosion.
