Display shows @ symbols then heat turns off during initial calibration

This just started happening and I haven't made any changes to the printer. I've double checked cables and they all look secure.

When I start a print, the bed and hotend heat up, then the display shows @ symbols and then both heaters turn off. When its finished the 9 point calibration it returns home and stops.

Firmware version 3.5.1-1778

YouTube video of what I'm describing that I recorded.

Any ideas what I should try?
TIA.
Tim

The temp reading for the hotend jumping all over the place suggests a break in your hot end thermistor wire somewhere.

Vintagepc, Thank you for the quick reply.

I dont have an extra one on hand, but looking at it, I think the wires may be shorting at the hotend side. They seem brittle. I just ordered new thermistor from Amazon (actually that hole heater assembly piece that has thermistor, heater, and heat block. Hopefully it's just the thermistor, but having to wait for shipping kills me.

Anyway, I was looking on this site and i couldn't find it. Is there any kind of warranty on the mk3 kits? I've had mine for 3 months and casually use it, so I dont think a wire should get brittle in that short period of time.

After you suggested a bad thermistor, I pulled the cable out of the sleeve and found a short in it. Either, over time it bent and broke or when I tightened the coupling on the box, it pinched the wire and over time broke. Easy fix. Thanks for leading me on that path.

Yes - you need to be signed in to view most things on the store; if you got your printer through a third party you may need to contact support and have them register you as an owner with the system.

You should contact support via the live chat option; there's definitely a warranty of at least a year, more depending where you live, they would likely send you a new one.
