Constant Y-axis crashes
I have had the printer for about a year now and I have always made sure that the belts pass the checks and I regularly lubricate the bearings when needed. Though within the year I've owned it I've had 146 crashes detected. I just started a new print and it's still on the brim and it encountered 2 more. If I can pass all the checks, I get good prints and the printer has nothing around it, what is causing this to happen? Is it just a bad batch in parts or not so great firmware?
Are the crashes always in the first layer or two?
Or do they occur randomly throughout the print?
Cheerio,
RE: Constant Y-axis crashes
They are randomly throughout, this model only had a brim to start and it managed a crash printing just that. For now, I have turned it off. If it is really having crashes then hopefully I will see shifted layers with the crash detection turned off.

One sneaky cause of Y crashes is the wire bundle hitting a wall beind...
With the power off, move the axis by hand; is is smooth? Does the resistance stay the same over the whole range?
Clean and lubricate the smooth rods, check they are not damaged/scratched. Check the idler pulley is not clogged, out of line, or damaged (loosen the belt and try turning it with your fingertip, is it smooth?)
With the belt loose try turning the stepper motor by hand; is it smooth?
Retighten the belt until it just begins to make a low musical note when plucked...
If you have not yet printed it make your next print this:
https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/46639-tension-meter-for-the-gt2-belts-of-i3-mk3s-or-prus
It MUST be printed in Prusament PETG or the spring tension will be wrong.
Let us know how you get on.
