Broken X stepper Mount

came to the printer this morning to see this happened while I slept printer was turned off… this happened in the nite

went to Prusa support chat was told “you put too much tension on the X belt adjustor…I have not touched that screw for 2 months of happy printing, part uses 20% fill PETG… that screw was adjusting nothing as the once the tension was set and the 3 motor screws done up tight it should have been backed off... well lesson learned but I wonder if that corner of the mount was done with 100% infill (solid) thais would not happen at all
so what do we do now … buy another part from Prusa and wait a few weeks and spend $5 for the set of X axis mount and idler plus the $25 DHL fee? nope…

Quick fix super glue and mini nose vicegrips as an instant clamp

and so this time I am increasing infill to 30% on the PETG and it is about a 4 hour print.

but I think this part can have a better design...

and I know that the VEKOOJ is popular but it says that the idler size must be changed and I guess that is to make it fit into the space required by the Z top plate and z nut holder

Re: Broken X stepper Mount

Funny crack pattern for just that screw. I’m wondering if perhaps the other two screws for the motor weren’t done up that tight, and the x-belt force was going mostly through that outer screw.

Re: Broken X stepper Mount

Gotta say...I'm not such a big fan of PETG. EVERY part I have received from Prusa as part of kits or printed myself has failed at some point during or after installation. But ABS just works for me. If it was just parts I was printing then I would blame myself but as the included parts are doing the same thing I really don't know what to think.

Understand I am not saying PETG is a bad filament. Just that I seem to have the worst luck with it for practical use prints.

Temp. vice grip 'mod to the bracket held and the replacement is ready. now to research a better design at my leisure

the SunLu PETG is an ok match to the Prusa Orange as well

I was told the break pattern indicated that I had left the adjuster screw up tight and even with the others properly torqued down over time (2 months in this case) was enough to eventually cause the crack . I should have slacked it off after the belt was tensioned and the stepper secured.
