Blockage in the upper part of the extruder

For some reason, when I try to insert filament into the extruder, something blocks it. I have opened the door on the side of it to check for filament that could potentially be stuck inside, but there wasn't anything. Is there possibly a part towards the top of the extruder that could have snapped off inside it, and if so, how would I go about opening it up to clear it?

(for reference, I have an I3 Mk3s)

If the blockage is between the top of the extruder and the gears then you will probably have to do a partial disassembly of the extruder to clean it out.

there might be junk in the filament sensor ball chamber...

Attempt to load flament. It will fail. Mark the filament at the point where it enters the extruder (sharpie) and unload.

Now offer the filament up against the extruder, aligning your mark, and you will see how far down the blockage is.

Cheerio,

The blockage is actually fairly high up, to the point where I can't get filament to load because it doesn't come in contact with the gears that would normally pull it in. I could still try and mark it though

This worked! there was a tiny nub of squished filament stuck just underneath the filament sensor. Ended up doing a partial disassembly and opened the casing right behind the extruder motor.
