Bed Level Calibration

Hi to all,

I'm noticing a little issue on my prints.
The right angle (behind right looking from the front, near the power supply) of the bed is a little higher than the other 3 angles.
Should a complete calibration solve or do I need to adjust it manually?
If I move the extruder all the way to the right and then I move the bed from far away closer to the front (the extruder would so print on the far side of the bed, opposite position of the "ORIGINAL PRUSA i3" sign) I can see that the nozzle goes closer to the bed. If the nozzle starts with 1mm away from the bed, after moving the bed it comes closer and it touches it (almost). From the start to half of bed it's same heigth. After the half until the end it comes closer.
If, from the right side (bed all moved to the front) with the nozzle touching slightly the bed, I move the extruder to the left, the nozzle goes back in height to the original position. Seems that only one angle (right behind) is a little higher.
Ideas how to solve?

Thanks, Simon

Re: Bed Level Calibration

check you have the smooth rods pushed into the parts that hold the rod, did they click into place properly. or loosen the aluminium extrusion on that side push down a little and re-tighten and see if that helps. did you try the rocking testing after putting the frame together ?.

I'll check it better later. The difference is really minimal, even if a ~0.5mm is not exactly minimal.
I've noticed that because some parts of the print in that corner are a little scratched. The first level is a little more squashed on that side.
What is the rocking test ? I've followed all the instructions of course, even checking the frame is exactly balanced.
Maybe I should give it a try again.

Thanks, Simon

Re: Bed Level Calibration

What result do you get when you check Skew in the menu "XYZ Calibration Detail"?

Uh, what do you mean?
The "XYZ Calibration" went always well. I've noticed that the bed is like descrived looking on a first layer print.
Overall using PETG, which is a little more tricky to use, it has blobs issues and the nozzle gets easy dirty. Looking deeper seems that it's because the first layer on that side of the bed has the nozzle a little more near the bed. It doesn't scratch it, but filling the first layer, it's easier it takes some filament on the nozzle.

BTW I was thinking the XYZ Calibration should resolve issues even on bed level not perfectly flat. Or?

Re: Bed Level Calibration

The "XYZ Calibration Detail" found under the "Support" menu shows whether "Mesh bed leveling" can compensate for an uneven bed or if you need to fix it.
Skew below 0.12° is OK.

Ok, thanks! I'll check it later and let you know!

Hello, here the informations:

Y distance from min:
Left: 10.70mm
Right: 10.73mm

Measured skew: 0.03°
-----------------------
Slight skew: 0.12°
Severe skew: 0.25°

Does it mean that XYZ calibration should automatically adjust the offset I've manually noticed?

Thanks, Simon

Re: Bed Level Calibration

To be sure, without touching the bed, I've tried a NEW XYZ Wizard calibration with following results:

Y distance from min:
Left: 10.62mm
Right: 10.60mm

Measured skew: 0.03°
-----------------------
Slight skew: 0.12°
Severe skew: 0.25°

So, does it mean that XYZ calibration should automatically adjust the offset I've manually noticed?

Re: Bed Level Calibration

It was really good skew values, it's a well-built printer you have.
With a correct Z level calibration and a clean bed, you will be successful with your prints 😀

So, does it mean that XYZ calibration should automatically adjust the offset I've manually noticed?

Edit:
"Mesh Bed Leveling" performed before each printout will compensate for unevenness on your bed.
One tip is to "Preheat" the printer for 10 minutes before printing. Then the PINDA sensor will warm to the correct working temperature and the compensation will be much better as the bed moves as it warms up.

Re: Bed Level Calibration

I believe the 'skew' measurement is how out of square the bed is... based on the 12 minute calibration. I don't think it has anything to do with the bed leveling. That is determined via the auto bed level routine you do before each print. There is a user manual tweak for this as well, but from what has been reported it has little effect.

Good to know the printer was build well, happy!

Thanks for those suggestions, I'll try it.
The problem is, every time I've something to print, I simply cant wait for eheh!!

Good then. The main issue was basicly to test the Y layer manually. Now a complete XYZ calibration seems has created a better print result.

A last question (posted elsewhere too): do you have/use PETG eSUN? In case do you have Slic3r settings for it?
I'm not really happy with my prints. PLA are really clean and fast, PETG is more tricky...

Thanks!
