Ball of filament and crash

I think my mk3 just tried to kill itself.
I have tried to print a large object using pla and the 0.2 mm layer height and for more than 6h everything went fine. But when I came back into my workshop to my mk3 a few hours later, it had pushed the whole printed object (still not ready) off of the heatbed and a huge ball of filament was under the nozzle and the nozzle repetitively crashed into the heatbed (statistic says 183 crashs detected!!!) 😮 😮 😮
I immediately switched the power off.... looks bad.... 😯 😯 😯

Fotos are attached!

What can I do to prevent this in the future??? And why doesn't the printer stopp when such a high number of crashes occur in a short time?

Better bed adhesion helps.

I agree 100%. If there are more than say 4 "crashes" in a period of time... abort the print.

Thanks for the response 😀
On one side, the printed part bent a little bit up. Could that be the reason for this mess?
Would a rift improve adhesion even for prints with a large contact area? Or shoud I use glue?

Questions: (It's not very important what you answer as I'm going to explain why it's likely the wrong choice anyway)

What brand of Filament? Is it "cheap".
How do you clean your print surface.

Answers: (see, I said it don't matter what you say, because I already know... cause I'm psychic like that.)

I've had bad luck with some brands of black PLA warping to the point it is USELESS. I spent 1/2 a spool attempting to print a 50g print. Never got it, between my 2 old printers. Always the exact same thing you had happen. I did have a completed print on my Mk3 with it, but to say it "warped" is an understatement. There's a 5mm GAP between two pieces on the model... Yeah, that bad. (Which if the print continued for a LOT longer, it likely would have still came off the print bed)

I'm guessing you are cleaning your PEI sheet with IPA like everyone on here says to do. Becuase you know, everyone knows what they are doing, and just parrot what the other guys who know what they are doing, who parrot the other guy... and... ... SQUAWKKKKKKKKKKK.... Are we engineers making things better or SQUAAAAAWWWWKKKKK.... Parrots?
With my Smooth PEI sheet I found VERY poor bed adhesion with cheap PLA, and the IPA does nothing to help. (god I Love my cheap PLA though.. it's so bad... but cheap!)

I found cleaning the smooth PEI sheet with the standard blue Windex, improved my adhesion VASTLY. I only had a few issues once I started doing that.

Wait, you already do that too? (seriously, I doubt you do though)
Get a liquid bed adhesion aid. I put a few drops on the PEI, then using a VERY wet paper towel, smear it all over the entire bed. This gives a nice uniform surface, that will keep a similar first layer texture to the smooth PEI sheet.

EDIT: I haven't printed on my smooth PEI sheet in quite some time, so I may not be up to date with all the "changes"... that I don't know of... ...

What liquid helper do you use?

Me?
3D-EEZ, apparently it's their original recipe... As the new stuff is "orange"... and by new stuff, I mean from 2016... They apparently went out of business in 2016.

I bought it used at MRRF2018.
