I replaced the thermistor first, it tested fine. I've done the factory reset step, and nothing else to do with the hot end works...self test fails, PID calibration stops....

what's the thermistor problem?

the same thermistor is used on the Mk2 and Mk3 versions.

cleaning the hot end with anything metalic, can short circuit the hater circuit to the thermistor circuit, with bad results...

a break in the thermistor wiring can cause mintemp errors
A short in the thermistor wiring can cause a maxtemp error...

the thermistor should measure 100Kohms at 25Centigrade (3% Tollerance)

I think I'll just give up and be done 3d printing, that last update trashed my printer, a month later I'm no closer to solving this, thanks for your input Joan

well...upgrading wasn't my original goal, I've got a thermistor problem but couldn't find any help, I assumed it was related to the mk3 being so old no one knows anything about it anymore? You wouldn't know anything about thermistor replacement would you?

there was a mk3S to mk4 upgrade path, but it was not really cost effective

i went from mk3s to mk3.9... a little more cost effective

If you are upgrading Mk3 to Mk3S, it's probably best to go straight to Mk3S+ (Easier to assemble than Mk3S, otherwise same functionality)

Mk2S to Mk3 is a big upgrade, the Mk2s is 12 volt with Rambo mini controller, the Mk3S id 24 volt with Einsy controller.

I did a Mk2s to Mk3S upgrade, but it was messy, needed modified Z axis top and bottom, and mk3 Y axis platform, plus 24volt power supply and new heater, heatbed, fans, controller, pinda, filament sensor, cables and the Y Motor rotates in the wrong direction, so you need to swap one of the winding pairs of contacts...

and the Mk2 frame is slightly smaller than the Mk3 Frame
