[ANN] Unofficial standalone firmware updater

Hello Forum,

After an amount of work that turned out to be disproportionately large with respect to the actual usefulness of the tool, I am happy to announce that I made a standalone firmware updater for the Mk3, able to flash the language pack as well. The updater works from the command line, so there is no need for physical access to the printer.

You can find it here: https://github.com/fsantini/Prusa_firmware_updater

In the repository, a special Prusa version of avrdude compiled for the Raspberry Pi is included, so you can use it directly from your octoprint platform. If you need this for a different platform, you will need to recompile the included avrdude source by yourself.

Please notice that this tool is unofficial, and I am not affiliated with PR in any way (except for being a customer and a fan). For this reason, I take no responsibility whatsoever for the usage of this tool. It worked for me, but I cannot guarantee that it will work for you.

Hope this helps,

Francesco

Re: [ANN] Unofficial standalone firmware updater

This worked for me as well. I simply did a git clone onto my Pi, then ran per the README giving it the URL to the new firmware. There were a few messages that looked like errors, "avrdude: stk500v2_command(): failed miserably to execute command 0x00", but it worked fine after that. Both the new firmware version and all languages are displayed in the printer's menus.

Thanks.
