Y axis gunk / bearings

Hi All,

It might just be me, but the sound of my printer seems to have changed with the last couple of prints. I tightened a few bolts on the cooling fan which has seemed to stop the rattle.

However, the photo below shows some gunk the Y axis right rail. I noticed the same gunk is not on the right rail.

Do I need to do some maintenance on the right Y axis bearing?

Tightening the bearing holders often forces out a bit of lubricant from the internal bearing oil pockets.
No worries.

But try temporary removing the Y belt, then sliding the bed across the rods by hand. This should feel super smooth, easy, non-rattling and non-laggy, otherwise you'll ruin the bearings over time and the rods by overtightening the bearing holders.

Thanks.

The rods seemed fine. I'm just putting this down to the machine bedding in.

FWIW, the sound was I hearing was due to the nozzle being partly blocked. Put a new nozzle on it, and the extruder was happy again.
