what is this flat surface finish effect i see on my print?
Hi All,
I am currently sculpting a Bust and the base is turning out be flat...Im not sure why this is happening? I read something about curves surfaces are not printed exact... is this true? I tried flattening the surface is red region but it still shows this top solid infill.
Any tips?
Thanks!
It's the layer height
Top infill will show up whenever the slope of the surface is nearly horizontal because the vertical resolution is the layer height — there isn't any intermediate height between the two steps.
You can use PrusaSlicer's adaptive layer height to get a smoother top by printing thinner layers in that vertical range, but the print will take longer.
You can use the "concentric" pattern on the top layer to produce top lines that follow the outer contours instead of being diagonal.

thanks for the tip. I will look at the adaptive function.
The other option you mention about "concentric".... not sure I follow.
He means the top infill pattern. You can change it to be concentric (or another pattern) instead of the default monotonic. It wont actually stop the stair stepping though, just change the infill pattern.
