Wait a Minute: Extruder Motor Fan?

How did I miss this?

Anyone seen this before?  I wonder if it moves enough air.

It's not a fan. It's just an indicator to show you the extruder motor movements. There are tons of options out there.

I wonder how it can be geared though.  Mine gets too hot during PLA prints.  While tweaking things may help it shouldn't get that warm in the first place.  I need to look for a heat sink.

I'm skeptical gearing an extruder spinner would work very well -- the extruder just spins too slowly, and it tends to be making lots of back and forth movements with retractions and such. The amount of gearing necessary to get it up to speed, I'd worry that you'd end up robbing torque and precision from the motor.

What I have seen on thingiverse are extruder motor fan shrouds where someone will mount an additional fan to the extruder motor.
